Good afternoon,

I'm flying VA1 in J this week.

After a couple of suboptimal domestic flights this year with 0/2 vegetarian options in J (breakfast, lunch, and dinners), I asked VA customer care about vegetarian dining.

They've given me the link to VA's special meal codes and description page and invited me to nominate one.

Is this any better than the food from a wrapped economy tray? Or is it that?

I'm flying onwards and back in Delta One and anticipate the opportunity to select from the menu three days in advance, so that will be my plan after VA1.

Your experience, thoughts, ideas, or suggestions are much appreciated.

Kind regards,

SBD

I had the vegetarian option on VA1 last October. It was some kind of pumpkin pasta dish. It was quite tasty, but not as substantial as the alternatives. So I was pretty hungry after the mains.
One thing I will confirm however - the food is generally served with impeccable aplomb. I've never had a dish that wasn't beautifully presented, or with great care and detail. Have a look at the meal times and menus thread - hopefully it will give you some anticipation :)

Thanks, clipper_wings -- did you select from the menu, or lodge a preference beforehand?

I've tried and failed to have a vegetarian preference stick to my profile (find now that I've established they don't do it, despite repeated invitations to do so). Now I'm just trying to guess whether I'll be better off with pot luck or lodging a special meal request for this flight.

Kind regards,

SBD

From my experience, vegetarian meals seem to be the last preference for most J passengers. That's not to say it isn't good food. I've just always noticed there is always a vegetarian meal available - and a carnivore like me would only choose it out of curiosity. I've only ever chosen it straight from the menu, never in advance.

Not sure if you are full vegan, but the smoked salmon on offer is always yummo, as is most barrumundi fillets I've enjoyed.

Being Vegetarian for 15 years & more recently Vegan, I’ve always had great meals on VA & seems to be good reviews with other major airlines too.

It’s disappointing that VA don’t offer a online meal request option for Domestic Flights, only Long Haul International, this is a deciding factor to choose QF at times.

If one doesn’t eat Meat, be Vegan. Great activists like Joey Carbstrong from Adelaide will educate & inspire anyone that checks out his profile.
