I qualified for SPG Gold a few months back, a bit by accident - often short-planned individual nights booked by client, so I haven't studied the SPG program very closely and haven't tried to maximise starpoints very much (yes, almost criminally negligent, I know! )
Am going to stay at Sheraton in KL in a few weeks time and am grateful for some tips from markis10 especially in another thread.
I find the various promotions / offers from SPG and the individual hotels a bit confusing. BRG I now have a handle on (thanks again '10); and I've registered for the SPG double points promotion.
On the "deals" page, Kuala Lumpur Hotel Offers: Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur - Best Online Hotel Deals there are a range of various promos - from club floor extra bonus, savings up to 20% for 2 night stays etc. There is also a 50% off upgrade offer: http://www.sheratonimperialkualalumpur.com/forms/room-upgrade-club to upgrade to a Club room for RM120, said to be led than the usual RM240.
* From the standard booking web page, I can book a 'standard deluxe room' (RM 352 or 384 depending on aspect); or a Club room "Upgrade offer" for RM 504. That's RM120 more, so apparently I don't need to use the "50% off upgrade" facility, I think. Wonder why its there?
* I have a choice of booking through the QFF web site, or the hotel web site, where the prices are very similar (except for taking BRG into account in the latter). If I book through QFF I get some QFF bonus points (not many). I expect I can give my SPG # at check-in, and get both the QFF points, the QFF bonus points as well as the SPG double points?
* Conversely (and this is likely the way I will go) - if I book through the hotel web site, can I give the hotel my QFF # on check-in, and earn the QFF points (but not their bonus points of course)?
Any yea/nay on the latter being the best strategy, if price not a big issue?
