Hi All,

I am WP and travelling to LAX in October and I will be travelling J. Depending upon what you look at, whats the best row to be in for this journey on the 777?

Regards
Steve

I

The answer to that question depends on what is most important to you. If it's privacy (which is my number one) then without a doubt row 5 (AKA the Jay-Z and Beyonce row..) is the way to go. I'm doing MEL-LAX solo in October and I've gone with 5A so I can put the curtain across and get some sleep on the way over so I can hit the ground running in LA.

IME row 5 is typically reserved for VIPs, VA crew on staff travel and WPs so you'll be able to select these seats on booking if they're free. Others have to try their luck at check in.

I have taken that advice and I have secured 5A in both directions... Thanks

One thing I will say about row 5 (I always take 5C as I don't like window seats) is that when the curtains are closed, it's a little strange if someone next to you (5C in your case) and you don't know them. They close the curtain to 5A/C, the rest of row 5 and the galley, so you really are in your own little world.

I usually find the FA will ask if you would like the curtain drawn, and I decline as I don't feel comfortable sitting in a little curtained off area with a total stranger. The curtain to the rest of row 5 and the galley is more than enough.

If you prefer people don't climb over you as much, perhaps the middle of row 5 on an aisle is better, or if you like to not be disturbed 5A is the best :)

Have to weigh up the options.

Row 5 is blocked for WP and VIP only (not staff on duty travel AFIAK, unless they're WP).

+1, row 5 are the best seats in the house. Can be a little awkward if you're travelling solo and you're sitting next to someone you don't know when the FAs close the curtain, but otherwise great.

I'm doing SYD-LAX this October in J for my honeymoon. I think you have all convinced me to try for row 5 and as a point of difference do the main J cabin on the other leg. Since it's our honeymoon, I think we will do row 5 on the way over :p

+1 for Row 5. They are the best seats in the aircraft

5A, C for me! I'm not too worried about sitting in the mini cabin with another person in C, as long as there's plenty of space and room for comfort and rest then I'm happy to sit next to another WP, on the bright side, the majority of WP's will understand and refrain from disturbing each other.

You'll want it both ways trust me. Even if the Honeymoon has 'exhausted' you, you'll still want row 5 to have the 'rock star' experience ;)

Definitely row 5. We have fly to the USA at several times a year and row 5 is the only choice. MrsF and I love it. Quiet, dark and comfortable. Despite being in the last row of J and close to PE, never heard a sound coming through. Enjoy the service and make the most of the bar as well.

so you can choose row 5? Last time I tried they said it wasn't available yet (flight in november)

I called today and they advised me I could put in a request, not a solid booking. Well, I guess that settles the fact: I'm a WP not a VIP.

It's available for WP when booking online.

If you fail to snaffle row 5 then you can call up.

WP should be able to allocate seats from this row simp,y by calling. When I was SG, Expert Flyer would show row 5 as taken/unavailable, once I elevated to WP, E/F showed those seats as being available to me, so I called and was allocated.

Doing a dummy booking now, I can still select them.

If your a WP then row 5 should automatically be available for selection. Give VFF a call and they will sort it out

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Just note the on time performance of VA7 has not been very flash 0f late .......... Not good for people with onward connections..... even allowing for the usual normal LAX hefty buffer you'd apply.
