VA7 Brisbane to Los Angeles is delayed 11 hours today.

I am travelling on the flight next week and am wondering what the alternatives will be for me if this happens on my day of travel.

I am travelling AKL BNE LAX MCO. premium economy.

This delay would mean I would miss my LAX MCO flight (all booked on VA one ticket). I realise that they would put me on the next available flight but that could mean an overnight in LAX or losing 1 night in MCO. I do have travel insurance which may cover it, but would prefer not to travel any longer than I have to.

Do you think VA would consider re-route BNE SYD LAX or AKL SYD LAX as either option would minimalise the delay? Would you try at Auckland or Brisbane airport?

Any suggestions would be appreciated thanks

Gosh...how unusual!

If I was aware in advance I would try for rebooking on the phone before arriving at the airport.

I would suggest worrying about it on the day to be frank, as there is not much you can do now and even the likelihood of it happening is low despite todays events. VA7 does not operate on Thursdays or Saturdays so there is a significant opportunity to fix any built in delays.

I just noticed this myself. I am travelling this sunday to Las Vegas via LAX on VA7 - it seems to be a VERY regular occurrence. I can not even see VA8 which was due to arrive this morning having arrived yet... Nor can I see it on Flight Aware

I'd look for the arrival of the operating aircraft (which i assume without checking is VA8) and if it's on time not worry too much.

What you could do is have a list of alternative flights handy to give you an idea of "suggestions" for VA to help you, but of course there will be 300 others also trying to make the same switch of flights.

Agree with others, today's delay alone doesn't really reflect on likelihood of delay on your travel day, although longer-term stats will give you a good idea of likelihood of it happening. The trick is to work it out as early as possible on the day to leave you options. Hence my check VA8 advice etc.

Assuming you're on the DL flight to MCO which from memory leaves at about 9:30am? Even if you could get re-routed to VA1 ex SYD you'll find it won't get in early enough to make the connection. Keep your fingers crossed!

Rather than start a new topic i thought i would ask the question here. I am on MEL-JFK on a DL ticket ( VA metal MEL-LAX and a VA Platinum ) the booking class is I and the fare basis is : IFX7ZSMF on Oct 31

So VA23 goes mech and its 11am when they cancel the flight for the day. What are my options can i ask to be put on SQ to JFK via SIN in J .. whats the rules regarding this and what airlines can i be rebooked on. I realise they will try and tell me bad luck but i am sure the rules say different.

Anyone able to explain it to me ??

Cheers

Nate

There are no rules other than the airlines condition of carriage (EU travel aside), so its pretty much at the whim of the carrier as to how they perform service recovery.

They will probably try and get people on NZ124 then connect in AKL to LAX then JFK.
