Hi
Looking to travel in business on VA29 on 777-300ER Syd - Abu and I looked on seatguru to ascertain the 'best' seats.

It appears Row 1A/C gets the best rating due to a bulkhead seat and more private (as per Seatguru's site)

However Row 5 has also caught my eye.
Can anybody that has flown on the 777-300ER in business advise on their rating on Row 5. ?
Row 5 appears to be separate from the rest of the Business seats in the business cabin with a curtain in front of it and it's also an exit row seat.

The one downside of row 5 that I can see is that from looking at seatguru map is that the toilets and bar for the Premium Economy passengers to utilise appear to be situated right behind the Row 5 business seats without any barrier to separate them . Is this correct ?

Currently all business class seats are available (from doing a dummy booking for seat availability) so I'm open to comments on Row 1A/C or Row 5.
I'm travelling solo if that makes a difference to seat selection.

thanks heaps

I fly VA J to lax every 6 months or so and have only ever sat in row 5.
i prefer it due to its privacy, quietness & space. Having the curtain pulled over makes for a great sleep.
The caveats are if you are travelling by yourself, you may be seated next to someone you don't know and that can be a little awkward, and the proximity to the bar. To be fair, I have never had any noise issue from the bar though.

If you are a VA plat and by yourself, try and choose j/k and get the spare seat blocked.

Also to add, you wont be bothered by the PE bar/pax at all.
There is a bulkhead & curtain separating you from them.

I was seated in row 5 once but felt a bit clostro - so shifted up to row 3 - was much better IMHO - I also sat in 1C once with 1A vacant - that was great and I usually avoid bulkhead seats like the plague but VA J config has you sitting way back so it was fine.

Thanks all for the input. If I chose 1A I have read I have to climb over pax 1C legs to get out when their seat is in flatbed mode.

In thinking about that, would I still have to climb over the legs of pax next to me if I chose 2A and they/2C were in flatbed mode ? Not sure if the space available when in flat mode is a bit less in row 1 with the bulkhead being there

I've flown in 5A a couple of times. The last time, nobody was in 5B which was awesome :)

Pretty much the same in 5 - not much space past the end of the flat bed....

Is that the same for all the rows ? EG does row 2 have more space past end of flat bed when compared to row 1 ?

Now tossing up between row 1 and 2.

My wife and I just love Row 5 BNE-LAX. The curtain gives you a great feeling of privacy and we never noticed any issues with PE next door.
It's only a couple of steps from the bar to bed

I think if i'm travelling with someone else i'd take row 5 - travelling alone with a stranger next to me in 5B felt a little weird in our own little private section ;)

Similar opinion to others. I've flown in row 1 before which is outstanding but given the 2-3-2 layout, there is no seat choice as a solo flyer that will guarantee that you won't be climbing over (or be climbed over) for access to the isle. My wife and I are flying over to LAX together but separately back and I booked row 5 for us together and 1 for the separate legs. Also worthy of consideration is that there is a 'ladies only' toilet on the right hand front of business (in front of 1H,K), so that is either helpful or painful depending on your sex. Row 5 also has the only 2 bassinet seats and you will get bumped from these if a baby is in business, or heaven forbid, be sitting next to a parent/baby combo if travelling alone.

In summary, I would take row 5 over 1 if travelling with a partner, but row 1 for solo and choose my seat based on which toilet I wanted access to!

When flying alone I chose the aisle seat in the middle section and hoped to get a couple next to me, which I did, so had no leg hopping to worry about either way. On a DL ticket I didn't get an option to choose row 5.
