Hi All,

Hope you can help. Travelling in January on a Virgin Australia "The Business" / Virgin Atlantic "Upper Class" combo to the UK.

I've got a 6 hour stop over in HKG and I'm wondering what lounges I can access.

MEL to HKG is Virgin Australia and HKG to LHR is Virgin Atlantic

I think that I have the Plaza Premium Lounge access, but are there any other lounges I can get access to?

FYI, I'm currently at Gold, but by the time I fly to the UK that will probably be back to Silver. I need 102 status credits by mid Sept (it's been a quiet year). I do have to go to Auckland this month, but even at full fare economy I'll only get 90 credits. Would it be worth calling Virgin to see what they can do for me?

Cheers,

Steve

You're gonna love 'The Business' - I flew with VA to HKG just the other week. First time in business and it was great!! Though we were travelling overnight and the flight was just that little bit too short, I wanted more time to sleep! It was very comfy. When we were flying back to Aus, we got access to Club Autus. It's a nice lounge, light, bright and with yummy food. I'm not sure if you'll get access to that, since you're connecting flight is with Virgin Atlantic, I'm not sure of the difference.

P.S. The Etihad lounge in MEL is really nice, you'll get access to that before your flight to HKG.

You'll get entry into the Etihad lounge in MEL (lovely lounge as mentioned by Drakecula), and in HKG I believe you'll get access to the Plaza Premium Lounge. When I flew upper class on VS this time last year, they actually had a separate Plaza Premium Lounge in HKG for VS guests only. It was a decent, about half full and had plenty of food/drink options (including free pour Grey Goose so I was happy). But you can always message VS on Facebook and ask, they were fantastic with a number of questions I had before I was flying.

Also you'll have access to the VS arrivals lounge in LHR when you land - they have a full menu to order from, showers, massage services (free if I remember correctly) and plenty of seating for you to recharge before leaving the airport. I had a long layover so it definitely helped for me but it's up to you whether you head straight out of the airport or stop in the lounge to freshen up.

As for the status credit question, where are you based? Might be worth doing a cheap status run as I don't think Virgin will waive the 12 status credits and bump you up (2 maybe, not 12 though). Do you shop at flybuys and get status credits from there?

Enjoy the flights!
