VA TSV-CNS/ROK Scrapped

Yep annoying.

I liked the ATR service CNS-TSV.

I had planned on visiting TSV in Jan but no longer on the list ;)

A bit more thought re timing and frequencies would have probably turned around that lack of demand.

I recently had to pay upwards of $500 for a QF TSV-CNS flight (last minute booking, late evening flight), I can only imagine what they will charge now!

Agree VA didn't have the correct timings, plus they needed to open a lounge in TSV - IMO, TSV is a horrid cramped terminal to wait in. (So I pay a premium to fly QF and wait in the QP, plus QF have some nice staff in TSV especially compared to their dragons in CNS.)

Agree with others. I always find it puzzling why more people sometimes don't support "the competition" - even though their timings did suck and often didn't suit me either - otherwise you lose it, and then you have people complaining and wondering about why its so expensive to fly TSV-CNS!

It was the same in Mt Isa (probably bad timings as well) when all the Mt Isa people complained about the price of airfares, DJ entered the market and then left the market again and everyone wondered why it cost >$1000 to fly to Brisbane on QF!! In that case - at least Xstrata got sick of subsidising QF's bottom line and got VA to re-enter the market again albeit with E190s and maybe o-my-god o'clock timings, probably more of that sort of thinking required.

Lack of VA lounge in TSV also a bugbear of fellow TSV residents!

No one will take a flight if their timings don't suit, a lot of traffic does business in Cairns or vice versa, neither of which was possible as a day trip with Virgin, making a fare to come home same day $100-150 more viable.

Agree with that - whether I was going just for the day or two from TSV to CNS or vice versa, or flying to CNS to get a International connecting flight in/out of CNS - the VA times rarely seemed quite right or easy to do. Once VA exit the market I can bet that the QFlink fares will return to their stratospheric levels though!

I don't find it altogether surprising that CNS-TSV didn't work out given the frequency. However, I had expected that frequency could increase when CNS-WEI starts early next year - adding an aircraft on a TSV-CNS-WEI-CNS-TSV turn on top of the existing TSV-CNS-TSV run might have given reasonable double-daily frequencies to the TSV-CNS sector - although this would still be well short of QFlink's offering.

As far as I know the CNS-TSV route is the only VA regional route into Cairns, it will be interesting to see where they base the ATR that operates the CNS-WEI route. Unless of course mainline takes it and they operate E-jets!

I will only support the flights that suit me. It might sound selfish but I've returned to BFOD and if that means I fly enough with VA to maintain some status than so be it. I'm not even remotely interested in whether VA are profitable or not. I'll let the cards fall where they fall and deal with the outcome and make appropriate decisions when/if that time comes.

Shame when routes are lost but I have always done QF as VA has never suited me time wise.
