Was able to book one award with an infant using VA miles and another for one adult with Singapore. Singapore took a couple of days then called me back and put it through. Great customer service!

How many points?

Marty_

HKG - MEL is 4614 miles so in J, it is 59500 points..( bracket 3601 - 4800 miles )...... As I wanted to get to SYD it pushes the miles into the next bracket ( 4801 - 5800 miles ) which is 71500 points

Looks like I messed up... Booked 2 x J tickets MEL-HKG but didn't even think to ask about including my BNE leg on the same ticket. Great availability on the HKG route though.

Anyone on the Inagural? Only 660 return for a few days in Honkers seems pretty reasonable.

Be a pretty significant inaugural to be on I think, big day for Virgin.

Thanks. Nice spot, didn't think it would be cheap and never checked. They were all ~$1k for the dates I wanted later in the year

$660 Jul 5 Dep returning Jul 8. Will look into it over the weekend :)

Just booked Brisbane-Mel-hkg in flex Y for myself, my partner and our infant. Came in at about $2800. Upgraded to business return for 110000pts which I thought was pretty good as it should also allow me to retain gold next year and comes in at half the points of 2 return business rewards! I felt that was a fare (sic) trade! Adding the bris leg in flex via a multi stop booking only added around $200 compared to booking mel-hkg!.

Cool!

Do we know anything further about MEL and HKG lounge access?

Not 100% sure but in the announcement JB was raving about reciprical access etc etc with HNA Aviation, Hong Kong Airlines and HK Express..

I have seen no further info other than this

Just booked those dates over school holidays which is usually 1k+. Never been there should be a full on couple of days.

What sort of fanfare happens on these inaugural flights? It's been a while since they have launched anything major.

It varies by airline.

Some have a display of dancers at the departing terminal. Most have speeches, with a few airline and airport (and on occasion a - perhaps State or equivalent - Government Minister) dignitaries invited.

Usually a cake is cut. Passengers may receive a slice, or a box or small bag of goodies, and perhaps the general waiting area may have (non alcoholic?) drinks available for free.

At the other end (in this case HKG) there will presumably be the water cannon salute from fire trucks.

You can also expect Mr Borghetti and associated VA-hangers on to be on the flight.

There will probably be a special menu.

The flight and cabin crew will presumably be hand picked. You may receive more attention than normal. There will be travel 'journalists' and bloggers up the front in J, no doubt gushing later in writing about the 'service levels' even though it's not reflective of the everyday experience. These individuals will all be on freebies, of course, and salivating at the thought of it.

Perhaps you could ask them why it is that VA has such an odd VAi strategy, and whether this airline will ever either turn a true profit, or even better, one that is judged 'satisfactory' in terms of exceeding the cost of capital.

And will it ever pay long suffering shareholders a dividend? Hmmm.

Hopefully the reciprocal access gets sorted soon - my family are doing HX J ex-OOL soon and it would be good to have some lounge access (even if it's the VA Dom lounge prior to going through int outbound security/immi) rather than

Business is blocked on the following flights due to being reserved for Virgin executives/travel industry and media personnel.

Hi all,
Just noticed on the specials page on the Virgin Australia website lists Hong Kong as $529 return from Sydney. However, as best as I can search online I can’t find any dates where this is the price. Has anyone managed to see a Virgin Australia flight to Hong Kong for $529 return? Or is this likely a website glitch? Not sure what the policy on links is, but here is a screenshot of what I saw.

curious to know your thoughts out there

I had a look ex MEL today and it was something silly so didn't bother.
Let us n ownif you have any luck at $529!
