I am trying to put a SYD-MEL flight into credit due to the border restrictions and lockdown in MEL but I can't get hold of Amex travel, when I call Amex travel I stay on hold until the call got disconnected.

Given the flight is in the next few days, is it possible to wait until the ticket is transferred to airport control (within 24 hours of the flight) so I can deal with VA directly?

I'll be in the same position, but I haven't bothered calling yet. Wondering if I try to make this my status extension flight and do up-and-back in a day. No doubt an $80 rebooking fee probably.

I finally got hold of Amex Travel, they said they are still waiting to hear back from VA about the policies regarding the latest MEL lockdown and will get in touch with me in a day or two.

You might want to hold fire for a few days with Amex Travel unless your travel is this week.

Amex travel called back and said their policy is the same as the VA policy. ie. free cancellation and changes and Amex will also waive the change/cancellation fee from their end, so the only fees you will be up for is fare+tax difference.

I ended up putting the ticket into credit while the MEL situation gets under control.
