Hey folks

I was wondering if the SQ boarding passes indicate the VA Velocity status?

I ask because I'm currently silver, flying to Japan in November. The outbound flights will give me the SC to qualify for Gold, but naturally I won't receive my card while over there. I thought maybe if the SQ system identifies this and prints it on the boarding pass I might be able to use the lounge, priority boarding etc.

This also happened when I went to the UK with SQ, but returned with EY - was Gold after the outbound but the EY boarding passes didn't recognise it, and with no card, didn't like my chances.

Thanks :D

The SQ system doesn't look up your VFF number and return a status :( it will store a VFF number but it is dependant on the check in staff to recognise and add status.

The good news is that you should have no issues, you might just have to be a tad forceful as SQ ground staff can be a little thick occasionally.

I recently went from gold to plat on a trip with SQ and I showed them my VFF screen that said platinum and they were okay worth it, but they max out at partner gold not partner plat.

My dad actually was in exactly your situation, making gold just before his flight and I got him to print the VFF screen and show them that at check in and that worked perfectly in brisbane but not so well in CGK.

If you can, print out your VFF screen showing plat while you are away and be a little insistent with the ground staff. Your boarding pass will say PTNR GOLD on it and that's what you have to make sure is printed on there

Good luck!

As VulpesVulpes says, your boarding pass should have "PNTR PARTNER GOLD" printed on it underneath your VA number. I did show my card at check-in and asked them to check my booking was associated correctly, but they quickly waved it away and told me not to worry as it was already in the system?

I found that showing the boarding pass was sufficient for priority boarding and getting an express card at the gate, but I didn't try it at the lounge with the BP alone. At the lounge, they actually do type in your Velocity number (presumably to charge VA back), so it's not just a "flash the card" situation.

I reckon your chances are good if you can show evidence and explain that you just made gold, so don't have a physical card. Compared to some other airlines, SQ are at least well aware of what a VA Gold member is entitled to. Presumably they see enough of us! :D

My VA Gold status expired on 02 September.

On 03 September my VA Gold status was printed on SQ boarding pass. Hoping the same happens in a few days time.

One observation I’ve had with VA and partners is the status at the time of the booking is attached to the PNR. I've had several cases where my status has changed during reservation and boarding passes have never reflected the update.

Is 2nd Sept on your card as expiry or review?

Thanks team :) I think at the time it was booked, I was Gold, dropped back to Silver throughout most of this year, and will be back to Gold after the outbound flights.

I thought about taking the printout of the Gold email when I get it, log in to Velocity at the airport and utilise my polite, cheerful disposition to see if I can make sure it's on the boarding pass.

The main thing I really want it for is to use the SQ lounge at SIN, as we're catching the overnight KIX-SIN flight, with a couple of hours downtime before the SIN-MEL leg. Would be great to shower and relax in there :)

Thanks again!

Interestingly, according to the VA website, Gold don't get access to an SQ lounge (if there is one) in KIX, so realistically it's just priority checkin and boarding in KIX, which I'm more than happy with :)

That will be disappointing. The Gold Lounge at SIN doesn't have showers. Heck, it doesn't even have toilets.

If it's showers you are after — and you are in transit with SQ — check out the Changi Airport Dollars promo which you can use to purchase access to the Ambassador Lounges.

You know, after posting that I went onto their website to look up what the "features" were of the Gold lounge and yeah, didn't mention showers. My initial thought was "maybe they just take it as a given that showers are in there" - but evidently from your post, that's not the case!

And thanks Neald, I just might look into that :) I had no idea what I was going to spend those Airport Dollars on anyway :)

Slight off-topic, but if you can put up with the annoyance of no toilets and showers in the Changi Gold Lounge, then it's not a bad place to while away the time, especially if you're partial to cans of Schweppes Bitter Lemon!

Indeed they do - but crucially they show your status at the time you added your VA number to the booking.

I was in a very similar situation at the end of July, when I hit Gold less than a week before my SQ flights. My boarding passes showed 'Partner Silver' on all four legs (booked yonks earlier and couldn't amend any details on SQ's ****e website) but I was able to load my Velocity account on a mobile device and show that I was in fact a Gold member, which worked at both check-in and the lounges.

However, your experience may vary - and VulpesVulpes is right:

I had no problems getting into the Sydney lounge with my VFF screen on a mobile device, but upon entering the Sydney lounge I was advised that the Changi attendants might be less flexible.

I must have been lucky, because I had no such issues either here or overseas. I think as long as you have a live version or printout of your VFF statement, with your VFF number and status clearly visible (and thus able to be cross-checked with your boarding pass, etc), then you should be fine.

Well that's fantastically convenient :) I booked it while I was still Gold in January, was busted down to Silver in April but will be back at Gold again on the trip... So it's going to be a complete mixed bag of what happens! :)

Thanks!!

Do let us know what happens on the outbound, Rotation! Interesting to see whether the booking status still holds.

Where on the SQ boarding pass (when provided by the airport) is your VA status actually shown?

I have my two SQ boarding passes from my flights during the week and all I have is 'PTNR PARTNER PRIORITY' and my VA membership number as a VA WP.

Mine was in the large blank space on the left underneath the E-ticket number, printed in smallish font. The VA membership number was on the right-hand side. Those passes were printed in HKG.

Can't remember if the SYD ones were slightly different, or if there's a different layout based on whether you're in Y/J/F (doubt it, but maybe?)

On the 10 or so SQ flights over the past few months, most of them had PTNR PRIORITY on them which seemed to be recognised pretty quickly by ground crew.

I had the lounge attendants in the BKK lounge consult their manual, but generally they seem to recognise the label pretty consistently for lounge entry and priority boarding.

It's funny that WP = PTNR PRIORITY and (I think) SG = PTNR GOLD. I wonder if these marks are used for any other partners? Does anyone know what Star Alliance Gold pax have on their BPs?

Mine were also printed in HKG as I was flying HKG-SIN-PER in Y and definitely no status shown anywhere on the boarding pass.

I also have an older boarding pass from June which was printed in SIN for a SIN-PER flight. It is in a different format but still does not show my VA status.

These are probably also used for VS elites, I think they still have privileges flying SQ.

Star Gold get XX*G, where XX is airline program of the gold member (eg UA*G, NZ*G, TG*G etc). Whilst silver get UA*S, NZ*S etc.

KF elites get KFEG and KFES, PPS get QPPS, Solitaires TPPS , Spouse Solitaire gets TPEG,TPES depending on status in their own right (not sure what a non status spouse solitaire gets) and lifetime PPS I think LPPS.
