Hi, I am VA gold and also a member of krisflyer. I have 4 J flights on SQ next week and requested that my travel agent book these under my Velocity frequent flyer number. It appears as though I won't earn too many miles, but will at least get lots of SCs which keep me at gold. However, I can't see the itinerary under my bookings on velocity website, but I do see it if I log in to my krisflyer account - should I be concerned?
Second question - can I use SQ points to upgrade a leg?
thanks

I would remove the SQ number from the booking if you want Velocity points/ SC as it will be the default earn if 2 numbers in the booking.

Are you seeing the reservation under your krisflyer account or just SQ booking reference. Either way you can call SQ to credit points/SC to VA. You may even be able to do it at check in.

If the booking is SQ on an SQ operated flight - you can use SQ points to upgrade a leg.

If the booking was with a VA codeshare on an SQ operated flight - you get more points, the VA gold points bonus - 75% extra; but will have to fork out more for the actual ticket and not have the option to upgrade with SQ points.

On the 2 cheaper fares, on SQ, with the points earnings going to VA, the earning rate for points per (airline) mile flown is just 10%, is it sweet saver or something like that.
Better than nothing though, like what it was up to 2013.
After the 10%, I think the next rung up is 25% and then 50% and then 100% for the most $$$ economy seat.
Might be better to let the points go to Krisflyer.

I spent days trying to work out the best options for points/sc and upgrades on my trip with SQ, its rather complicated, especially with all the booking classes between the two airlines. Ended up with SQ because the price difference and flexibility didn't overcome the benefits of flying VA codeshare.

Yes, all very good and well, but Captain Heat indicated they were travelling in business class. All business class fares, other than redemptions, earn points @1.25 pts per mile, in Velocity or in Krisflyer.

Also the cheap economy fares you talk about earn the same in both programs as well - if it earns 10% in Velocity it earns 10% in Krisflyer, same with 50% earning fares, so no need to preference Krisflyer.

I don't envy you the maths :)

I've often been tempted to book onto SQ using a VA codeshare (mainly to get the Gold / Platinum bonuses when crediting to Velocity, rather than just the base points if ticketed with SQ). However, we have historically always ended up buying directly on the SQ website in order to book exit row seats at the same time. Does anyone know for sure whether you can book exit row seats in advance for a flight on SQ metal if the ticket is a VA codeshare? I'm wary as I have got first-hand experience of not being able to do it with Etihad on the 2nd leg of a VA-ticketed flight SYD-AUH-LHR, despite having the Etihad-specific booking reference (which was different to the VA booking reference for the journey)

As at May 2013, the answer from SQ was no. Don't know if that's changed since then.

I asked about seat selection on the VA codeshare, and whilst they said they could do it, it wasn't easy. Flights could only be done at the airport, which isn't great if you want to be first in best dressed

Agreed - a bit pointless if you're hoping for anything other than a middle seat :)
