Hi.

I am VA Platinum and booked MSP-AUH-BLR direct with Etihad.

Does Etihad already see my status or just the VA number?

If they do see status, does this print on the boarding pass and will it count towards priority for upgrades, either bidding or operational?

Thanks

Booked direct with Etihad in J. Flights were 1 month ago and VA status and number was definitely noted on the boarding pass.

I've read that Etihad often oversell, esp Y. On BNE-AUH and AUH-BNE, I was told it was a very full flight and op-upped to F (one on check-in, one at the gate). On these flights, the day before departure it looked like business class was nearly full, and first class was only 2/8. I believe having status and being a single traveller over the holiday period helped, although that's just my experience.

No op-up on EY ZRH-AUH, where both J and F had spare seats.

Thanks.

I'll keep an eye on the seat maps, but I think $1750 for ORD-AUH is too much for minimum upgrade.

Compared to a BNE-LAX Y to J costing only 45k in points which I value at roughly ($450).

The bid minimums seem to be about three times the points I am used to.

Travel with EY quite a bit as a VA plat, mainly in Y. Recognition is quite good in the majority of AU/EU ports that I travel to, as well as in AUH. The only place where I encountered trouble was at NRT, where the check in staff said I didn't have access - a call out to the supervisor easily rectified that.

The lounge staff in AUH will proactively escort you to the 'First Class' section of the lounge, where service is very attentive. Fast track immigration and priority boarding is well looked after in all ports. If the staff question your eligibility in priority lanes, just tell them you're platinum, and this should also be reflected on your boarding pass as "VA Platinum".

On board, they normally greet you at the end of the flight to see how you're doing and to pass you a fast track card. I've yet to receive an OPUP however.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

That actually sounds quite good! Far better recognition than SQ.

I was at the lounge in AUH flying J the other day and didn't even attempt to access the F section. Definitely no escort for me.
