Not really a gripe, but VA marketing department seem to ignore the facts with their glossy spiels.

I just noticed this one that flashes up on their main web page advertising banner........

From take off to landing?? On all my recent flights, crew are instructing everyone that laptops and notebooks must be stowed for take off and landing including the device type that the guy in the picture has! I guess having him watch his movie on an iPhone doesn't have the same advertorial impact, a bit like the promo shoots for the new lounges (a few years ago) that showed spirits on the shelf for the punters................

Not my experience. Laptops and notebooks to be stowed, tablets and phones could be held in hand on each domestic flight I've had lately. As with many things at VA - probably some inconsistency in how this one is policed. Laptops also to be powered off - as gate to gate only applies to handheld devices. I think the official CASA ruling is devices up to 1kg.

Same here, happily been using the tablet to watch movies etc all flight from take off to touch down, and finally got to finish the movie yesterday.

You've picked my motive. I've heard it stated by crew anything with a key board must be stowed. Isn't the slide down part of the device in the pic a keyboard? Regardless, I've noted two people on two different recent flights that have been told to stow their iPad.

The other thing in the advert misses is that you only have gate to gate entertainment if you bring your own device. Lots of people who don't fly often will remember the gate to gate screens and may now be thinking "great, they're now giving us a tablet"!

In another twist, on my last flight, the crew were so engrossed in their galley chat, they were caught out by the captain indicating crew to take seats. They totally missed the "prepare cabin" indication and as such, the business tablets were not collected. Then with the scurry to get the connecting pax off the aircraft first then the impatient J cabin, I noticed the tablets were left lying on the seats as all the zoo pax were about to leave. I wandered up the aerobridge wondering if any will be left by the time all the Y cabin disembarked!

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Sorry but that's a tablet. I used mine gate to gate yesterday.

As for the details, I think it's fair to assume that banner ads are designed to be clicked on. If the page you click through to doesn't have the details that's a fair complaint but this seems pretty confected to me.

I think you'll find that's a flap folded back on the galaxy tab they hand out to J Pax.

They need to be stowed (as they collect them prior to landing).

I am sure that with the new handheld device policy, J pax can continue to use the galaxy tabs gate to gate, like all other pax, so there is no need to collect prior to landing

This is the thing. Do they have to, or do they not? When I've bothered noticing, all times except my last flight have been collected before landing. That's not gate to gate.

I use J class frequently, and the tablet is handed to me on boarding and I just leave it in seat pocket when I disembark, the crew are always clear that you can use it throughout the entire flight. The PA does say any device with a keyboard attached. I clarified this once and if the keyboard folds away or detaches that is okay as it has to be less than 25cm in diameter.

That's normal advertising these days. Put an * somewhere and it's all good.
