I am a VA lounge member and my parents will be traveling in July to Melbourne to mark my fathers 5 year mark (his battle with cancer)....I am thinking I will get them lounge access but I can only take one guest in with me and don't have any other lounge passes....how does the single-access lounge pass work?

Thanks

Are you a paid lounge member or Velocity Gold or Platinum? My understanding is that only Gold or Platinum members can buy single entry passes.

Anyway, if you can buy a single entry pass, you just pay $65 at reception on the way in.

I am a paid lounge member! Yeah I don't know about single entry...is the VA lounge worth it though?

This from the Virgin Australia website:

Members’ Guests

Virgin Australia lounge members and Velocity Gold members may invite one accompanying guest to the Virgin Australia lounge at no charge. Guests do not need to be travelling with Virgin Australia to join members. Additional guests will be charged $65 at the lounge reception.

Velocity Platinum members may be accompanied by up to three guests at no charge.

So looks like you would be able to buy a single entry pass if needed.

I like the VA lounge but I wouldn't pay $65 to get in. I guess you have to work out what you'll get out of it - on an average visit for me I'd be there for around 45-60 mins, and I'd have a toastie and maybe a couple of beers. I could purchase the same for about $25-30, so that's about what it's worth IMHO.

Yes you're right Jurahn - dunno where I got the idea that it was only Gold/Plat members that could buy single entry passes.

The rules for these sorts of things seem to change ... and change ... and then change again over time, so it's no wonder people get confused!

post your flight date and time and the airport and I bet a AFFer will be happy to guest one of you in. I most certainly will if I am travelling on that date and would even go out of my way to meet your timing if need be. It's for a great cause. I'm sure someone here will be able to help.

If one has two to three hours to spare, is the consensus that it is not worth paying A$65 for a casual visit?

Not so long ago if I recall the one off entry fee was A$35 - big difference.

Yep, there is no way i would pay $35, let alone $65...

If it's just 'one' then it's probably not an option. The $65 is only applicable to guests who already have a lounge entitlement through lounge membership and wish to bring additional guests over their allowed quota. I don't think it's for sale to the general public at large.

And no, there's no way the lounge is worthy of $65 for 2-3 hours.

If I had to price it on a purely cash basis, I'd say it's worth paying $10 for in the morning and $20 in the evening.

...of course the way I drink, I've extracted far more value out of it than that! :)

I think that in situations where you pay its more like 65 between 4 people is 15 bucks each and you can drink together would be the mentality they are hoping for
