VA Global Wallet

Me and the Mrs got our cards yesterday (red) no wallet tho, not that i was expecting one anyway.

My red card arrived yesterday as well. Given the long expiry (5 years!), they obviously don't have any expectations of me climbing the status ladder. :p

Compared the exchanged rate with the travelex cash card, the VA rate is slightly better.

Hey guys, one thing to take note of is the Inactivity fee. $1.95 per month, if the card has not been used for 12 months.
Received mine yesterday, ugly card (gold), wallet is ok. Only requested as a back up source while doing some travelling, however, as I most likely will not be using it, I won't be activating any time soon.

My only peeve so far is the time for funds to hit the card ready for use.
On Tuesday I transferred funds via BPay and later that day my Global Wallet account showed the amount as 'Pending'.
Friday morning and I am still waiting.
So even though the transaction only took 4 hours, they do make you wait the 3 days as outlined in the T&C's

(Before anyone mentions POLI, my bank doesnt support this method)

If that is how long you have to wait for transfers, it is going to become pretty worthless to me..

I am only in some countries for few days.. I was kind of wishing to use it as a top up card when I ran out of currency. 3 Days is quite extreme for transfers in this day and age and not really much use for short notice business travel.. I am going to rethink activating this card. I can transfer FX money from my main account in hours to an OS bank account.

Maybe they have pitched this at the wrong market? It looks to be more suited to Leisure travel.

Hi,

Sorry if this is a stupid question,

can I use this instead of my debit MasterCard? If yes how much would it cost in fees if I just use it in Australia?
I have read the booklet that comes with it but I don't quite understand.
Thanks, Ben

I asked a similar question upthread, AFAIK you pay the load fee and get a point every $2 and thats it!

Anyone having problems activating the card?

I can't pass the 'verify your identity' page...

Electoral Role - my full name/legal name has a hyphen and does not match my velocity account (po box) - cannot use
Phone book - not listed and certainly no landline - cannot use
Photo ID/Passport - My DL again has different spelling (hypen) and won't match. It also has my residential address which does not match the PO BOX to where the card was sent to. All utility bills go to a PO box and or not in my personal name. - cannot use
Credit History - Said "Verified" as soon as I clicked it, this only brings up to 40%.

Basically can't activate the card :S

The leather wallet is a nice touch, too bad the pockets don't fit cards.... fail.lol

Maybe try calling them to activate it that way?

They may make you send scans / fax through copies of your IDs once you explain your story.

Of course, you may be in no hurry to activate the card either.

Brings up an interesting question: when you activate the card, there is the fee if the card is inactive for over a certain period of time. If you have nothing on the card, do you pay nothing, or does your balance go into negative, or do you get served a bill?

Also, most of us need new cards at least every 12 months (i.e. retained status with new expiry date, or different status). Do we effectively get a new Global Wallet number every single time this happens? (And does this reset the 12 months condition, which means if we never use the card, we probably will never had to pay a single cent in inactivity fees?)

There's going to be similar questions to that when QF issue their equivalent cards.

Seems to fit the cards I can put into it; that said, it's a glove fit. What are you trying to shove into it?

A couple of the pockets are pretty deep, actually.

And as tested previously, a standard passport barely fits into the larger compartment. A frequent traveller's passport will struggle to fit at all.

The larger passport doesn't fit and I'm not going to try and damage it to make it fit in.
I tried the new GW card in the top and bottom pockets and had to force it in. A real struggle to get it out as well.

I actually wouldn't mind a wallet like this... just need a european brand name on it. Time to shop!

I realise it's a 3rd party doing the verifications, however what Velocity could do is grab the data from your passport (which is verified when you travel internationally) and put a "verified ID" tick on your velocity account. Then just pass these details over to anything requiring financial services/to do with ID requirements. Think about it - frequent flyer - and the airline wants you to prove who you are? Seems kinda silly when they have all the data on file. Although my guess is this is designed for the masses and not for the *actual* frequent flyers :)

The mind boggles at the massive breaches of the Privacy Act you're implying there .. :p

I received my card yesterday and just spent about 45 minutes trying to validate it. They want Drivers licence details, but won't accept NSW!! Passport, copies of documents, medicare details and each step along the way they rejected something because it might have been shown slightly different. Finally they said they couldn't find me on the electoral roll!! Really!
So this is going in the bin. Velocity = a great waste of my time. I will stick to my ANZ Travel card - whatever the cost it is useful overseas.

Stupid 28 degrees knocked me back with their app wizard.
I think I have too much available credit or something... but it doesn't give you a reason when you do it online :/
Looks like it's Amex(spensive) for this weeks Eurotrip :/

I found the wallet very useful...................as a present for my 3 year old to play with - she's loving it. Velocity all the way - ra ra ra!

So I requested my Global Wallet just after the last outage. As soon as someone here pointed out that the option had now appeared, my request was in. I still don't have a card. It'll be interesting to see what turns up as I just ticked over to Platinum so I should have a welcome pack on the way. Knowing the superior data processing skills they poses at VA, I'm fully expecting a standard platinum welcome pack, followed by a gold global wallet a few days later and finally a platinum global wallet about a month after the gold card.

My story is a bit similar. I received a gold global wallet card, a platinum global wallet card and one card holder all on the same day!

I'm red and got my card a couple of days ago, yet to use it though because of the delay in loading times

I got my gold card today with the free rubber (err genuine leather) passport wallet. Looks nice. I look forward to receiving my Qantas one.

I got mine today. I requested it at the start of July, the welcome letter is dated July 20.

I'm silver right now but I'll be gold by the end of the month.
