In a couple of weeks the girls and I are flying from USM to SIN in the morning (on MI), arriving around midday, and connecting with an 8pm SQ flight to SYD. I imagine that SQ will check our bags all the way through so I was wondering whether it is possible to leave the terminal and do some shopping?

We did this some years ago - we arrived on a flight from NRT in the morning and deliberately scheduled a day for shopping before a flight out that night, but I can't for the life of me remember whether we collected our bags and dragged them around, collected our bags and stored them or just checked them right through. I did have a lot to drink on that flight...

You will be able to leave the terminal, with our without bags, no problem. If you want (and you can convince the check in agents), you can also check your bags just to SIN, collect them and store them in left luggage, there's one right beside the taxi rank on the ground floor at the skytrain/MRT/T1 end of T2 (although this will reduce time available obviously, as you will have to allow time to collect them and then get across to T3 to recheck the bags for the SYD flight).

Great, thanks. I don't imagine we'll need the bags back. I would usually just pack a roll-a-board with a change of clothes and have a shower in the lounge before the evening flight. The only other thing I can think of is if Marge does some shopping are we able to add some luggage to our already checked-through bags, ie check in an additional bag?

Of all places this should be the easiest to check additional luggage when traveling on SQ out of SIN.

(SQ check-in counters at SIN operate 22h and even if they are closed you may still be able to check luggage [http://www.singaporeair.com/en_UK/travel-information/checkin-airport/].)

Yep. I checked some additional bags recently when coming from an MI flight onto a BNE (SQ) flight. I had some bags coming directly through which I had checked in when I boarded the MI flight. After my day in SIN I then added my shopping to my check-in.

The luggage storage is an excellent service. I use it regularly to store, for instance, a bag of work clothes while I'm on a holiday sector or last year while on European business sectors, I stored my 'tropical clothes for doing business in SE Asia which meant I didn't have to log all of the clothes to all of the hotels, all of the time.

Thanks for all the replies. It looks like we'll be fine. Now I just need to pry that credit card out of Marge's hands...
