Using Velocity Gold for benefits on Delta & Hilton

Once you see your SCs in your VA account, contact VA via Facebook, asking to PM someone to have your account reviewed asap as you are travelling and need your status updated to enjoy the benefits.

This is definitely worth a shot - it could have the gold benefits in place for the SFO-LAS and LAS-LAX legs, but unless you manage to scrape up 55 credits before you leave then you may still need to do the pay for bags thing for LAX-SFO (I don't like the chances of a FB post and review being actioned and completed whilst you're in transit...although you never know )

Heck even if you do rustle up 55 credits in the interim it's probably worth contacting VA when you get to London to ensure you have the best chance of everything being in the system before you hit the states

When I was about to qualify for Gold the first time I called Velocity after I had taken the flights and they manually processed the scs and the upgrade for me because I had a flight the next day and if I left it up to the system I wouldn't have had status for that flight

Quick couple of questions.

I will be flying into LAX (From LHR) and then off to SFO on the same afternoon in Early Feb. The trip to LAX will put me on Gold Status with VA.

1. I am wanting to know how quickly matching status is available with Delta so I can receive the baggage allowance of 'Gold Medallion status' for the flight to SFO.

Also - I understand you can request to be matched to either IHG or Hilton Honours.

2. I was hoping to get some advice on how long this takes to kick in once requested. I plan to use this to my advantage while in America for room upgrades/free breakfasts etc in San Fran, LA and Vegas.

I've asked the same thing in the last couple of weeks as my husband and will both qualify VA gold on trip to USA. My husband will land on a VA flight with enough SC to move him to gold. He is currently silver. Some people have said they've come through quickly, others slow. Sometimes it seems to be the luck of the draw.

Are you currently VA Silver? If your reason for upgraded status in the short term is baggage allowance then Silver medallion gives you waived baggage fees for yourself and up to 8 others on your booking. We are relying on this in case VA Gold doesn't come through. We have a stack of Delta domestic flights and the baggage fees would cost us $100 USD per flight. I think it would be about $1000 if we had to pay.

When my husband has qualified for VA gold in the past I've called once the SC showed on his account and it was done manually immediately. I think there was actually a glitch because it was saying he still had to fly sectors when you could see he had flown them already.

I asked the VA Facebook staff what is the best way to address this quickly if it happens again and they said on the phone. They told me the FB team have no access to that and they have to ask to have it done. Email can take days to be acted upon.

Have a fun trip and here's hoping our status comes through quickly.

Like I posted above, hubby was getting emails congratulating him on SG and WP while we were travelling so it can be very fast.

Great! Sounds like a plan - I may even speak to a friend who works at Virgin and see if they can be on top of it for me on their end.

This should be enough but in case shopping gets the better of me (I'm a sneaker head and Hong Kong is going to take all my money haha) just trying to make sure I could have 2 bags. But good point - it would mean that if i have a second bag - would just need to pay to check that one in.

One bag could be an issue for a shopper! I'm planning on packing light and returning with way more than I left with! With two adults at Gold if all goes to plan with VA & Delta.
They also have NO WEIGHT restriction on your carry on bag. As long as it fits in the size requirements. Plus a personal item which can be another handbag/laptop bag. I'm taking a carry on suitcase to take a change of clothes etc in case of lost baggage.

If the sneakers that you buy are new and clean then it wouldn't be gross to stuff them with your clothes. It's amazing how many pairs of underpants you can stuff inside a sneaker! Not so nice if the shoes are stinky. Hopefully the sneaker gods are shining on you in HK!
