I live in Australia and my parents, who live in the UK, bought business class tickets with Emirates to come and visit us for 6 weeks. They arrived on the 29 November and were due to fly home on the 13 January. Unfortunately my father was killed in a road accident on 3 December. I contacted my parent's travel agent in the UK to ask whether I could use my father's ticket to fly home with my mother to attend the funeral and help with the arrangements.

Solution
Hi there and welcome to AFF. Sorry to hear about your father.

Unfortunately, it won't be possible to use your father's ticket to return home. Tickets are generally non-transferable. You may be able to claim the return leg of the journey either as a refund (which may not be much), and the balance from travel insurance. That money could be used towards a ticket for you to accompany your mother back.
