Have to do a quick unplanned trip from Aus to Canada. Got a NZ flight (BNE - AKL - LAX - YYZ). Normally I'd go QF, but 13k is too much to pay.

normally I don't fly any other airlines other airlines other than oneworld, with a very occasional Virgin flight. I'm a velocity rewards member.

The flights are NZ and air Canada (code share, NZ flight number). Is it worthwhile using velocity rewards , rather than find a star-alliance program, and orphan some miles in a new program.

Thanks

If it's a J fare, I would credit to *A, probably Aegean and therefore you would have *A Gold for the next couple of years.

I thought about this. All OS work travel is J, but Aus is Y and mostly QF. Thought this might good way to kick start my velocity account.

600 SC if you credit to Velocity - thats a pretty good chunk.

I only calc'd 440. Wasn't sure about Code Share NZ flights on Air Canada. The Velocity website just say "eligible Air New Zealand fares and flights". Not sure of the exact definition of this.

If it is 600, that would make my mind up straight away.

Reading the fine print the codeshares wont credit, so its 440. Maybe credit those to *.

Which is useful if you plan on flying some *A going forward.

If that's a return it should earn 440 velocity SC's and over 31000 velocity points (apparently no earn on non VA partner metal).

With Aegean, the earn would be ~26000 and you'd romp in *G ..
