I'd like to use Asia Miles through Cathay Pacific to fly AA/Qantas, JKF to Adelaide. (I'm trying to fly with friends.) Since all 3 are Asia Miles members, it seems like this is should be possible. I've spent hours on-line and in everyone's telephone trees with no answer on how to make it work. Or maybe it just can't be done. Has anyone done this or something similar? Thanks.

According to the Asia Miles charts, for JFK-LAX-SYD-ADL (10688mi) you will need:

110k miles in Economy (Return)
175k miles in Business (Return)

To find availability, create an account on Qantas - flights to Australia, New Zealand, Africa and Asia. Book airfares at qantas.com. or Book Flights, Hotels, Holidays, Car Rental with British Airways - BA.com and do a search.

You can only use QANTAS all the way for this type of award.

You might find that doing a oneworld award is better value for this distance (20-25k miles). This will let you use any oneworld airline, on any routing (e.g. via Asia).

There are plenty of people that have booked similar awards using AAdvantage miles or QANTAS points here. You might try the Flyertalk forum for specific Asia Miles questions.

Thanks for the good suggestions. I thought about using One World, but they direct you back to their individual members, and Cathay P's site won't let me book on Qantas. CP flies to Adelaide (LAX - Hong Kong) so I assume the're not real interested in booking another carrier.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Sigh... If you have the Asia Miles (in one account) you can fly on whoever you want, assuming that you can find reward availability.

Like I said, in the previous post, you will need a QANTAS Frequent Flyer account or a British Airways Frequent Flyer account to do a search for reward availability online.

Just ring up Asia Miles with the flight details, and you should be able to redeem.

If you fly solely on QANTAS, it will be a Partner Award.

If you fly on QANTAS and AA, it will be a Oneworld Award. Two or more oneworld airlines (excluding Cathay Pacific) are needed for a Oneworld award.

You will need to telephone Asia Miles to make the redemption, or fill out the form.
