Hi Forum, will be travelling to the US ( LAX ) next May return June ( I know I am early )should be QF gold in a few weeks, need the best option and price to get there either PE or cheap J, I can get EVA air from Brisbane for $ 5300 and that would get me gold straight away in Star Alliance, need a good price and advice about wether I keep all my eggs in 1 basket 'IE 'one world' or go Star Alliance Thanks.

I think more information would be required before you could work out whether its better to go OW or *A... Where does most of your flying occur, domestic or international, etc, etc... If you credit one return flight that nets you more than 20,000 miles to Aegean Air as you say that should get you *A Gold and then i guess you could keep booking the rest with QF/OW to get/maintain Gold/Platinum with them..

Are you departing from Perth or anywhere in Australia for the chepest flight??

Thanks for the reply, will leave Perth , but on previous trips to LAX we have gone with QF to SYD , then on our way,

Have you got any QF ff points to burn if you get in 353 days ahead at about 1000 AEST for a JASA?

How many people is it for?

I don't think you have to keep your eggs in one (alliance) basket. There's nothing the matter being SG or WP on QF then trying for a status match with a *A carrier then you've got the best of both worlds.

Are you doing any internal travel in the US or any planned KUPP fares on AA?

Thanks for the reply, will only have a say 40000 pts to burn , don't understand ;the 353 days and the JASA:yes will be flying from Vancouver into Alaska ret, then one way Vancouver- Lax, thanks again for your interest.

[Sorry forgot to mention, 2 people.

You'll have better chance of booking seats as a ASA if you do it 353 days out.

Being in PER consider going PER/HKG/YVR and miss LAX altogether.

Which airline from *A is most likely to status match from your experience ?

Managed to get a TK Gold status match to QF WP but haven't tried any other *A carriers. Used it in LAS at the United Lounge prior to LAS/LAX flight & besides lounge access it came in handy for checked baggage that we would have otherwise had to pay for.

How do you go about getting a status match??
