HI Guys
Well im only a couple years in for working for a Big 4 accounting firm (23 years old) and i am going on a business trip to both East Coast and West Coast USA. My boss has told me to ensure i bring different wardrobes for east and west coast. Now i know East coast being NYC etc is all suits etc, but what would be going on West Coast in Cali? Even in the accounting and law profession is it laid back? Not so many suits?
Anyone travel to Cali on business and have any advice? Dont want to look stupid when i arrive! haha

Head into Macys mens department, pick up a few good wool/silk suits such as Lauren for no more than $250. They will be acceptable.Similar professional tastes to Australia. Classics remain so!

In NYC 3 weeks ago and it really was up to you what to wear-I saw everything from shorts and bare feet to a long evening gown plus high heels at 1000-and he really looked good too.
From Memorial Day(end of May) more casual wear is acceptable-ie wearing white,Seersucker suits etc. However most in the Financial world stuck to more formal dark suits but usually coloured shirts and always a tie.Our son was in banking there for 6 years.

Dammit, you beat me to it!I would suggest that the OP maybe not call it "Cali" - you may find that you get a similar reaction to that if you called Sydney "Sidders". Some people do it, but that doesn't make it correct, particularly when you are an outsider.

Similar to calling San Francisco "Frisco", I believe. ;)

Ben174 - where on the West Coast are you visiting? That would change things somewhat I think. In saying that, a decent suit that fits properly will never look out of place for someone in your line of work. Tie may be optional on the West Coast.
