G'day all,

Great forum I was pointed here from flyertalk wish I had found this before.

I wounder if people can please help us. We are going to for 4 weeks and we have booked a car through Hertz for 29 days which is a Pontiac G6 or similar for two people. But the car insurance is costing us more than the car for the 29 days and our Platinum CC will not cover us for car insurance at all.

I only found out yesterday that we should use a car broker site like webcarhire dot com which includes insurance in the total price. Has anyone used a good site they can refer me to ?

If I book a car through priceline they offer insurance for $11 a day total has anyone used this before is this a better option ?

We need insurance no matter what I'm just looking for the best option as it's so expensive. Any help would be great... Thank you

I've booked carhire on holidayautos.com.au loads of times. Get fully inclusive prices including insurance/excess reduction so no need to add anything when collecting the car. Generally (after taking the insurance/reduction package into account) has worked out at best price. Downside is I never earn FF points on car hire through the broker. Holiday autos apparently source cars from all main providers, but in Australia they've always provided me a Thrifty car and in the US either Budget or Alamo (if i recall correctly).

Apologies, can't help with insurance specific questions.

Cheers.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I would recommend using insurance4carhire.com to purchase coverage against the excess. The annual premium for USA CDW and SLI is GBP109 which works out as AUD198. Covers rentals of out to 31days working out at $6.82 a day

If you just want CDW, I think that the GBP65 annual worldwide policy will cover you nicely ($118) which comes in at $4.07 a day

Thanks for your help I will look into these people as I would be happy with Budget or Alamo... Thanks for replying !

I have used them myself. Hertz will have no issue; when you pick the car up , then unless you are a gold member, they will try to sell you theirs but just say no when they ask; you do not have to get their agreement to do so

Dave, thanks mate.. Did you ever have to claim ? I have heard that if you have an accident you have to pay for the damage and claim back through your insurance company ? do you know if this is true ? I have a Gold membership for hertz but they still try and sell me insurance :p....

If you have a gold membership and it is valid for the USA and in the booking, you should be able to just pick the car up and go; if it is from a major airport, you should be able to bypass the desk and go straight to the car

I haven't had to claim and would suggest a call to the company and just ask what their procedures are

There are many threads/posts on car rental in the USA with two options being www.netflights.com or www.driveaway.com.au both of which include insurance and all other associated fees in the cost.

Note that Drive Away Holidays International & Local Car Rentals Book Today! does not include cover for Injuries to your Person or damage to your property.

"Insurance for personal injuries / damage to drivers and passengers [and] optional coverage may be offered locally for an additional fee."

However, most Travel insurance Policies have cover for such as standard in any case - check your PDS.

I stand corrected, and just checked Netflights and I could not find any mention of them covering insurance for personal injuries also. Will have to check my Columbus T&C

Thanks for all the post and info..

Yes I noticed this does not include cover for Injuries to your Person or damage to your property my Citi Plat card covers this but only for standard car rental... I just checked out traveljigsaw who a friend has used and they seem ok good prices.. They use a company called Alamo over in the states it's $800 cheaper than Hertz with a corp discount and gold status...

not sure if saving the $800 is worth any hassles.... ???
