Hi Guys

Yes this question may have been asked a million times.

I'd just like a brief answer - Is assualt moral turpitude?

I'm no criminal but in 2010 I was convicted of:
Common assault and causing actual bodily harm (from a stupid drunken bar fight)
In 2009: I was charged with LOW range rink driving

Is there any point of applying for a VISA to the USA or CANADA?

I desperately want to travel there.. I have travelled Europe and Asia extensively and would love the opportunity to visit U and C

Thanks.

Neither offence is moral turpitude, which covers things like theft and fraud.

You should be able to enter the USA, but you (most likely) cannot do so under the Visa Waiver Program, unless you want to lie on the form and risk getting found out, which will have severe and expensive consequences. You could try the ETSA process, which will assess your eligibility online. I understand that it gives you a free pass for drink driving.

Your best bet is to apply for a Visa. You will need to provide copies of any relevant documents such as court records, and it will take about six months before you get your visa. There are any number of hoops to jump through.

Hi Hmvs and welcome to AFF. Skyring has covered the issues relating to the USA so I won't address that part of your query.

However, you need to be aware that Canada is red hot on drink driving offences and this may cause you trouble when you apply to enter. You will need to follow this up before travel, otherwise you may arrive there and find you won't be allowed to enter Canada.
