The Washington Post article talks about USA airlines and members going on end of year mileage runs questioning their worth.
One thing that stands out from an Australian perspective is that we do it better having different end of membership years based on your joining month.
It must also make it easier for the Australian airlines to get revenue at different times when members realise they need some more SCs to attain/retain status. It also means that the customer service staff get to deal with this issue all year round rather than a rush at the end of the calendar year when there are other priorities and quite often delays dues to weather issues.
