So it's looking like I will be required to, contrary to my wishes to avoid doing so given current political circumstances, go to the LOTFAP for a short-term (< 1 month) work trip later this year.

I've been informed by colleagues who have previously gone over that I'm going to need an L1 visa, and our internal immigration system has given me the dreaded "WORK AUTHORIZATION REQUIRED" message - I've kicked off the process to get our immigration advisers to draw up the paperwork for me (conveniently, we're a megacorp with a specialist immigration services contractor, and we're big enough that we're almost certainly covered by an L1 blanket petition).

So, while I'm waiting for our immigration team to get back to me (and waiting for my management to secure the silly amounts of money required), anyone have any experience with getting an L1 and any major pitfalls or tips and tricks that would be useful to know?

I've never applied for a US visa before - the only other trip I've made over there was as a tourist on visa waiver - so I'm not familiar with the process at all. Having to do a day trip to Sydney just to file the paperwork sounds like a complete pain, but oh well...
