Afternoon brains trust
my Flight from CGK-CMB has been cancelled
i had very carefully planned an itinerary with lots of overnights to try and avoid any risk but said itinerary will not stand a 24 hour delay

what are my options?
will they rebook on an inter line partner? There are EY and QR options that will work
Can I get myself somewhere else and salvage the ticket (eg to KUL or SIN?)

at the moment they are only offering a refund or to travel 24 hours later

OWE, paid J ticket

thanks!

Have you called your Travel Insurance provider? To at least get your options from their point of view?

UL is, IME, a good airline in the air. But less great for other issues.

If computer says "no", then that's what the UL staff will do.

I suppose that once your flight is under "airport control" on the day, the staff at the airport attending to check-in might have more options than the call centre?

But that's a very last minute situation.

I am on a flight at present so doing everything on wifi
Trying to get a feel for what is possible or likely
Insurance is a bit sketchy on what is covered, reading the PDS

I would look for options on other airlines. Use the refund of the UL ticket to fund the new one… albeit there will be a delay in processing your refund of several weeks.

If there are no comparable fares in business class, you best option is to buy the most cost effective and value for money alternative. That way, it would likely satisfy any potential claim you could make on insurance, or, if insurance doesn’t cover it, leave you the least out of pocket.

My preference is for them to rebook me although I am guarded in my expectations

Have spent some time using the inflight wifi and settled on 2 options (well, 3)
-they rebook me to EY CGK-AUH-LHR (ticket is around $2000 but if they rebook I get the ORC lol)
-I make my way to Singapore and they rebook me from there (seems the more likely of these two options)
-because of the short notice, option 3 is likely to be self funded QR Y from CGK or possibly AY W from SIN (as final destination is VNO)

I will call in when I land

@nancypants What is your onward travel destination from CMB?

As the ticket is a OWE you could try to get QF (I assume that is who you originally booked through) to reroute you, but sounds like you got the standard ‘refund or suck it up and wait’ response.

What have UL said? Are they the ones who gave the response above, because they won’t be able to refund all of a OWE ticket.

Edit: have just seen your post above. Who is giving you those options?

Personally, I would not get myself to another city: this is a UL problem to fix. THEY can pay to get you to another city via INVOL REROUTE, or they can just send you on another route from CGK. Lots of options from CGK.

Sounds like you have tonight in Jakarta. Is it imperative you get to VNO tomorrow or can you deal with a days delay in Jakarta. UL should give you Sunday night in a hotel and then organise the onward connections for Monday.

Some email contacts in Jakarta if don’t already have them:
[email protected]
[email protected]
Although I don’t know if they work weekends.

It was an email seemingly direct from the Jakarta station- [email protected]

We would like to inform you that UL365 on 15 Oct flight cancellation, we can give a free date change to nearest available flights or full refund the ticket.

It was ticketed directly with UL so no dice getting QF involved unfortunately
Round trip cost was around $4000 so $2500ish for a walk up one away fare doesn’t feel wildly unreasonable
Ultimate destination is VNO, via LON

Edit to add: clearly I’m not going to die if I don’t get to VNO on Monday as planned but I only have a very short trip with meetings planned that can’t be rescheduled, flight LON-VNO is non changeable and cheap enough to biff or purchase a new one, I would lose hotel reservations also (this would be travel insurance territory), it would almost be approaching trip in vain to be 24 hours later in which is what their proposed options place me to

Ahh right. Sorry I read OWE as oneworld explorer ticket (and ignored the paid J bit) rather than that you were Emerald. Hence the comment about QF.

The CGK Res team were very helpful when they cancelled our UL364 a couple of months ago and rebooked us QR J.

So if I understand ULs responsibility is to get you to London for this outbound leg?

oneworld options CGK-London (mostly LHR) appear to be QR, MH and some combinations with BA. J seats available. They should rebook you into one of those options.
If they’ll book you outside of oneworld carriers, such as with EY, then you have even more options. I’d push them on it and give them examples of what you want, probably via screenshots from Google flights.

Edit: and if you wanted more SCs, you could also push UL to book you MH/UL CGK-KUL-CMB and you’d still be able to connect to UL503 to LHR if you’re flying that one in the 16th. Also options CGK-KUL-SIN-CMB that should meet up with onward connx to LHR. But that departs how much time you want to spend on aeroplanes. 😁

Good to know. But it is Saturday and it is already mid-afternoon in Jakarta.

It might be Colombo that now handles this?

Good call on oneworld, I have it in mind they have a partnership with EY but could be wrong. Definitely listed as an interline partner. I’ll screenshot a couple of other options

Had an email back to say to call in…about to lose wifi anyway so…

Yes they appear to not work Sunday in Jakarta

I assume chauffeur drive is out at the London end- but given QR costs twice as much I shan’t grumble too much

Could be worth a shot but I wouldn't now expect it either?

I've done QR out of CGK to Europe.

UL in J is very good in the air but IMO, QR is better!
