Hi AFF Community
I've been reading a lot of posts on here for sometime and have now registered. I'm wandering if anyone has any experience or tips for the following scenario
I've already booked flights in Economy from Perth to coughet via Bangkok in July flying Thai Airways
15/7/14 - Perth - Bangkok - W
Bangkok - coughet - H

20/7/14 - coughet - Bangkok - H
Bangkok - Perth - W

I am looking at upgrading to business as i have lots of reward points with ANZ. I can transfer these to a number of airlines including Qantas, Virgin, Singapore, Air New Zealand, Cathay and Asia Miles. Air New Zealand and Singapore are with the star alliance and so is Thai Airways. I figure if i transfer points to Air NZ or Singapore i can then request for an upgrade through the star alliance. is this the correct assumption?
With ANZ 6000 rewards points gets me 2000 KrisFlyer Miles and 6000 rewards points gets me 30 airpoints dollars.

ANy thoughts/ideas/comments would be appreciated
Thank you

I am afraid you are out of luck. You can only book upgrades on Thai (using either Air NZ or Singapore Airlines points) if your economy booking in Y or B class. As your longer sectors are in W class this will not be possible. The only way would be if you could transfer miles somehow to Thai's own Royal Orchid Plus program.

Hi dajop
Thanks for your quick reply and expert advice! I was not aware of this and you are correct that im booked with the wrong booking class and therefore cannot use sing/AirNZ points to upgrade. Im pretty sure i can't transfer direct to Royal Orchid. Thank you for saving me a lot of time and potentially sending points to a loyalty program that I wouldn't be able to use in a hurry! You sir are owed a beer! Thank you
