Does anyone know whether the sequence number on the Boarding pass has anything to do with comp upgrades. I am a VA Gold for over 3 years now

My wife and i were travelling last month from Mumbai to Sydney via Abu Dhabi on Etihad and the sequence number on our boarding passes was 1 & 2. After boarding the plane we were asked if we wanted to move to Business (hell yes) - After coming back to Sydney, i checked all my old boarding passes and i could see that whenever i flew Etihad, the sequence numbers on my boarding passes were always smaller numbers (4 to 20) but whenever my wife who does not have a elite membership travelled on her own, her sequence numbers were 50+ and upto 200 sometimes.

has anyone else experienced this or was this all a big coincidence and i am reading too much into it.

thanks
Kshah

Sequence number has nought to do with upgrades. It's a numbering system for them to order check-ins, and if the system 'breaks' they can easily do a manual check-in at the gate.

You would have almost certainly have been upgraded based on another basis, possibly a family that needed to be seated together and to accommodate them, you were moved.
