I bid the minimum for BNE MEL 10 days ago, I think $125(?). It was an old plane, which it always seems to be and always full flight in my limited experience. The service was terrific.

I was connecting from HIR BNE which is always lightly loaded upfront in economy so not worth the expense to upgrade.

Paid $350 for PER > BNE > NTL (Elevate Fare)
Successfully upgraded PER > BNE for $250 per person (B737)

Pretty happy with that.

(Coming back have NTL > MEL > PER in J reward. MEL > PER is A330)

Have just bid the minimum of $700ea for 4 x people from HKG - MEL on 1 Feb. Last time we were successful for 1 x person with $450 (the minimum on that flight). The seats are currently selling for $5000 so not expecting to be successful but Mrs Mac is WP so there may be some chance if that helps. Interestingly the original booking was made using points as a VA Platinum guaranteed reward seat, but the fare basis shows as L (elevate). Fingers crossed

I have book flexi economy from Mel to Calgary via Brisbane & LA cost me 2800$
I am VA platinum member was trying to upgrade with points but no availability for award seat, so I wanted to use upgrade bid me for Brisbane to LA long haul flight minimum bid starts with 1700$ (which doesn't guarantee me upgrade if higher the bid I may have chance) which I think way to expensive same on the way back so if I calculate altogether 2800+1700+1700=6200 without domestic upgrade
IF I want to book business return that cost me around 6200 so my question is how bid me upgrade is cheap if so how can I do it
Any help would be appreciated & I am new to this trying my head around these how they work

Doesnt make too much sense to me. The UpgradeMe offer is better value if you have booked a discount economy fare.

Id try and upgrade with points. Its 45000 to upgrade from flexi to business, assuming that a reward business seat opens up.

Thanks Harthagan that's exactly what my question is that this doesn't make sense from what I understand is the whole point of upgrade me offer is suppose to be cheap but in this case it's more expensive whereas points upgrade is concerned I have requested & I am on waitlist hopefully when they release it I get one but again there is one issue with points upgrade is that it doesn't kicks in 7 days prior to departure which Velocity call centre told me, first they will wait until all paid business class are sold if there are any seats left they will release reward seats & the chances are very low
The whole situation doesn't make sense to me

Bid $180 (about $30 above the minimum) each way for SYD-AKL return and was successful on both legs. I'm Gold anyway so the only real benefits that I wouldn't have received anyway were in-flight, but definitely enjoyed the service!

I made successful upgrade bids with Virgin. Brisbane to LAX from premium X to bus8ness for $1000 and upgraded husband from economy to premium X for $750. Leaving Feb 1st.

I have only niece and her partner flying home & return for the weekend from Darwin and want to put a bid in for upgrades (they have no status/no points). Bid guide starts at $185 and up to $450pp - any suggestions on what would be reasonable to give them a chance?

cheers

DRW-SYD update, I waited and the min bid went down to $150 so I made a $157 bid for 2 pax and was accepted 72hrs out.

As the flights were approx $150pp one way by memory for the lowest Gateway fare and its a 4.5hr flight, Im happy with the result.

Now to surprise only niece and her partner.

If @amaroo doesn't adopt me...……...will you? xx

Only niece and partner return SYD-Darwin upgrade bid accepted approx 76hrs out.

Min bid was $170 and I bid $178 and again, I think for a 4.5hr flight and original ticket was approx $150pp so Im happy with that.

Niece was texting me last night fretting about what she wearing, which is cute considering its Darwin and Ive seen guys in full PPE just off the site in J.

Edit: Just remembered I used a $129 VA voucher when booking these flights so thats approx $125pp each way so even better.
