Upgrade to Executive Floor?

I received an upgrade to Executive floor at Holiday Inn Silom earlier in the week when I checked in at 1:00am. I asked what time breakfast was served thinking I had lounge access and was given an answer.

Turned up to lounge to be refused entry. Apparently upgrade was room only. Disappointing way to spoil my excitement.

Does Hilton do this as well?

No - Gold get access if upgraded to exec room; Diamond get access, upgraded our not.

Both get complimentary continental breakfast.

+1, and depending on the country, most will give full restaurant breakfast, especially in SE Asia.

Lounge access and breakfast inclusions with HH definitely means IHG (IME) remains as a "only stay if desperate" option. I do have some IHGs booked, but only if I'm arriving late and/or checking out early and couldn't make use of the HH benefits if at a Hilton (that is, I want a bed and a shower only). Uses my IHG points balance without me actually missing out. The only other real benefit I see with IHG is the points breaks, but I haven't found any I actually want in the year or so that I've been watching them .

HHonors Gold will get (continental, as a minimum) breakfast, as does Diamond.

To address this question, I do seem to remember a few people mentioning this fairly recently, so perhaps yes...........but I'd suggest rarely and perhaps only by inexperienced staff. I've never had the experience myself though.

Booked a standard room at Holiday Inn Macau for today. And silly me forgot which Holiday Inn I booked.

Got to Macau and was confused. Found wifi and looked at my IHG account and saw booking for Executive club floor but smoking room.

Checked in and booking showed standard room where as website showed executive floor. Upgrade? Asked for non smoking room and given deluxe room in non-smoking non-executive floor. Hah. The floor stinks.

Managed to get lounge access. Drinks and snacks for a couple hours. Small lounge. Loud guests.
