My daughter is travelling economy saver this week on QF93

She just got an email about offer to upgrade.... Now, interesting her cousin works for Qantas, and he tells her that business class only has a few seats left, and that there is many points upgrades already in place.

My question is two fold
Why would they send out offers to upgrade it they already have many others already wanting the premium seats, and, who goes first the points upgrade, or the offer of money and points?

I suppose, what scenario if more profitable to Qantas.

My first thought with that information would be is it actually worth putting an offer in....

Would love some insight

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

It doesn't really cost you anything to put in the upgrade... except time and the anticipation/disappointment if you don't get it :(

The flight may only have a few seats left, but QF may know there's a chance some passengers won't turn up. There may also be passengers waiting to upgrade from business to first (freeing up seats in business).

During holiday peak periods upgrades used to be common... my best freind, a Qantas bronze, was upgraded to business class to LA because he was the only remaining passenger with some sort of 'status' on Qantas (basically just because he was a member of the program he was the highest on the pecking order!).

So I guess rather than giving the seat away for free to an upgrade, might as well sell it for money.

Please bid and report back.
Qantas promises points upgrades are awarded first, would be interesting to know the truth... although we’d need to also know someone with a points upgrade on the flight.
