Upgrade Co-Payment

I just noticed on the AAvantage email that for deep discounted tickets that you wish to upgrade using points that there will now be a co-payment.

There has been a co-pay of $250 for transatlantic upgrades and for US-Asia for quite a long while ; the co-pay of $150 being introduced on some other routes is new

Deep discount is a bit misleading since all upgradeable economy fares other than Y and B booking classes require the co-pay

No. It is only upgrades from economy using miles that attract a co-pay

upgrades from business-first have no copay
Upgrades from economy-business/1st using eVIPs have no co-pay

If requested with short notice there is an expedite fee for these upgrades. But this is different to the co-payment for discount economy to business class upgrades.
