Unusual experience in MEL Flounge this morning

Now if people are doing that and do not belong in the lounge then I do not care how intimidated or embarassed if they are challenged about status later.

That is not the impression I got from the OP though. They were in the lounge and entitled to be there and got challenged about their right to be in there. That is not good enough as they obviously felt embarassed and I know with my anger management issues the issue would not end there.

It's a bit different being double checked about your right to be in the F lounge to being accused of sneaking in, I am sure from to time people do walk past the desk in busy times, especially in Melbourne where they don't have much of a heads up in terms of impending guests. Often see it in hotel lounges as well, where you are asked for your room number, I don't take umbrage at being asked more than once on the odd occasion, I normally have more important things to worry about, like the menu!

On JQ flights they definitely check flight details (and I think often change you to the QF codeshare based on what one of the SYD staff said to me as I was entering)

Wonder if they can change you to other QF codeshares at the F Lounge ( not JQ flights ) ?

The fact that they left you questioning their intentions is IMO pretty PP.

I'd have no problem with someone asking for further ID once I was within the lounge however, they should tell you why & they shouldn't leave you questioning their intention or your legitimacy!

Hope you were traveling F........that would have said "F you"

That would be my first question. Why do you need to know?

I would still provide feedback to Qantas about the experience.

I would have just straight out asked him why he wanted to know. Then I would have queried him who he was and once I was satisfied would have given out my details.
As far as I am concerned once the dragons have waved you through there is no turning back. :D

I think my first response would have been "I beg your pardon" due to the tone reported here. Then go from there about who and why for the request.

When I entered the lounge I actually waited at the desk to show my credentials (a QF Plat card and a JQ boarding pass - but they couldn't see the $26.96 I paid for the flight ;) ) to a staff member - who apologised and thanked me for waiting.

I was so taken aback when they asked that I didn't really react until the person concerned left with my FF number written down on a post-it note.

Slightly OT but I had similar experience a few years ago checking in for a QF flight, 1st leg in QF Y(had no choice as no J left) and 2nd leg in QF J.

Got to Sydney Int airport, I was a QP Silver FF at the time, the Silver/Premium Economy queue was 20 deep and the Business queue had noone what so ever in it.
So I thought hey I am flying one of my legs in Business, I was a QP & Silver (which entitles you to Business checkin queue in some circumstances, even though there was a Silver/PE queue but it was packed).

Entered the J queue and from a distance got rudely shouted at by the checkin lady (Are you Business/Gold? so the whole PE queue could hear) before I could even get to the counter.
I proceeded to the counter and said 1 of my legs was in J, she huffed n puffed and said I can only check you in here if ALL your legs are in J.
She then said "Just show me your ticket" and snatched it off me, saw that indeed I had a leg in J, and was a QP silver, not just a bronze.
She tagged my bags business, gave me my 2 boarding passes and was a bit nicer by then...

Got to the gate and when boarding my BP beeped and guess what got an OP-UP to PE.
Not sure whether this was the checkin agent feeling guilty for the poor service or whether it was due to full flight (my guess is Full flight as it was packed).

Needless to say if I was entitled to be somewhere I would annoyed if getting asked for BP/FF # once inside the lounge.

How strange an experience. I have never entered the SYD F lounge without having my BP scanned at the desk. I think the frequency of checking at the entrance has diminished though.

The SYD F lounge are obsessive at triple checking if you are flying Air Pacific/Fiji Airlines.

If you can't prove to them that it is a QF Flight Number Codeshare/081 Ticket Number they will exclude you. They can't always seem to tell from the boarding pass especially if QF have done the checkin domestically from another city.

I once asked the guy at the bottom of SYD F Lounge and he said to me that he turns away over half of the people who try to get in and up the escalators.

In Melbourne there is no such preliminary check that I am aware of - it all happens on lounge entry.
