Untangling the Mystery of Everyday Rewards Offers

Another week, another set of EDR offers and offer codes:
  • CEN-5357 - Ampol/Woolies: Collect 10x points when $10 or more in store or 7x points on petrol
  • PMS-5362 - Collect up to 10,000 EDR points (and save up to $150) when you sign up for Marley Spoon 5 box order
  • CVM-0056 - Woolies 1-2-3 offer (spend $30 in week one get 1000 points, $40 in week 2 for 2,000 points and $50 in week 3 to get 3000 points)
In my case, CVM-0108 is spend $115 (not $105) for 4 weeks for 10K EDR points. So similar, but not identical.
Perhaps what the codes tell us is the amount of bonus points one would receive (i.e. 10K EDR) whereas the criteria for qualifying varies depending on what the targeting algorithm determines is appropriate? What this suggests is that the matrix of offers is limited however what we can influence through our spending is:
  1. The amount of spend required to qualify for the bonus offer
  2. Whether we receive the bonus offer
Supposing this hypothesis is true, the implications would be that as shoppers we should only expect offers in line from what has already been discussed in this forum, and our spending strategies will only influence the likelihood we get one of the more favourable offers on Woolie's offers menu.
