From news.com.au:

AUSSIES travelling in the US will be hit with increased baggage fees, with airlines charging up to $66 for two bags.

As of June 10, United Airlines plans to hike its luggage fees by $5 per bag for customers who pay for the service at the airport, charging $20 for the first bag checked and $30 for the second.

This is starting to get to the point where the extra charge for baggage is excessive. I wonder how many travellers actually factor this additional cost into the calculation when comparing airfares?

Me. I was looking to book over the w/end Alaskan or United from LA mainly coz VirginAmerica's site doesn't say when they're taking bookings til: every return flight I tried from Sept to Feb was 'sorry there's no seats, pls change your date' without saying which frickin date). I'll be flying Southwest inside the US by the looks of things.

PS In the shower ABC Radio said .... is not flying Syd-LAX. I didn't hear which airline. The snippet wasin between swine flu ramblings. Anyone now wat's the story?
