Uber adds fuel surcharge for non-EV fares in Australia amid petrol price rises

Trips in electric vehicles will be exempt from the temporary fee of 5 cents a kilometre, rideshare firm says

I would say 5¢ per km fuel surcharge is not the end of the world - say a trip from Sydney Airport to City would only be 80¢ - $1 extra.

The difference in fuel cost is $0.60/L

A non hybrid Uber consuming 10L/100km would have an increased fuel bill of $6/100km. That Uber drver would be under the water by $1/100km

Assuming hybrid Ubers are eligible for the same surcharge and consuming 5L/100km, the increased fuel bill would be $3/100km. That Uber driver is ahead by $2/100km
