Oz Spotters is reporting that a United Airlines aircraft had a tail strike on departure from 34L at SYD.
I believe the aircraft is currently dumping fuel prior to returning.
No indication of aircraft type yet.

Just looking at Jetspotter and it is being reported as UAL Flight 870,
N128UA,haven't looked to see what type of aircraft that is.
Probably not a big deal but still newsworthy I think.

Quick google of the rego gives - indeed - a Boeing 747-400.

Still - ouch, tailstrike. No bulletin yet though. Either not newsworthy enough for the papers or.....

or...It doesn't involve Qantas so no reason to report it?.
Geez I'm a cynic..
Probably not a big story but reports are that there was a fair amount of debris left on the runway,...as you would expect with a tail strike I guess.

As QF are not involved there will be very little interesft from the news media.

It has not even made smh.com.au

I thought UA pilots were better than that.

A rookie co-pilot?

Sort of like the Emirates incident in Melbourne not generating anything. It's crazy the narrow mindedness.

Damn - I missed it, saw the aircraft on climb as I walked back from the J lounge bar and thought to myself how nice a 747 looks on a low and slow climb when its clean. Interestingly 25 minutes later we were held for 10 minutes at the threshold of 25 due to some "debris" being cleaned off R34L at the intersection with 25, that could have been a coincidence or it took some time to get back to the tower that they needed to have a closer look at that runway?
