Hopefully they’ve correctly identified all the VA2 planes with issues now… bit worrying they found another one.

Two Virgin aircraft pulled from flying due to unauthorised engine parts​


Two Virgin Australia 737 aircraft have been temporarily pulled from service after the airline became aware their engines were fitted with unauthorised parts.

Although the airline originally thought VH-VUT was the only aircraft affected, this masthead has confirmed that Virgin uncovered a second unauthorised part on another 737-800 aircraft VH-YFR at the weekend.

Virgin is the latest airline to become embroiled in the false-certification scandal, which has plagued AOG Technics in recent months.

Qantas and Regional Express – which also fly Boeing 737-800s– said their respective fleets were not affected. Qantas Group also flies a mix of A320s and A321s, which have also been cleared.

Two fatal crashes, in 2018 and 2019, grounded all Max-8s across the world for two yearswhile the manufacturer addressed regulatory concerns. They were cleared to return to service in 2020 and are now used by 60 airlines all over the world, including Bonza and Virgin.

Although in this case, some of the paperwork had been forged
 
We obviously wouldn't have known if the initial paperwork had been forged. However once the item got into the airline operators system every movement and cost was recorded and that is what we were checking. If the airline had overpaid for dud goods that was not our concern. We were checking that the imported goods were accounted for and the amount paid properly recorded and reported to us etc. Most aircraft parts are duty free and therefore it was mainly the GST liability we were concerned about.
 
It is good to see an appropriate response by Virgin - hopefully, that part of Qantas that manages safety and certification has not been infected as other parts of the company have demonstrated unethical and allegedly illegal practices.
 
Are these planes back in service yet does anyone know? So many VA2 cancellations last couple of days, was thinking this could be contributing on top of everything else that’s going on there?

I’m pretty sure one of them at least is back in service.

I don’t think the ongoing high cancellations are due to these maintenance issues though, more so the staffing and general operational issues at Virgin that are ongoing.

VUT was only ever out of service for a couple of hours. YFR spent 4 days grounded and returned to service on the 21st of September.

Also just realised I flew on YFR the day before it was pulled from service. That’s fun to think about…

So, both back in the air a couple of days before the first post here. ;)
 
The first post here was a news article from 18th Sep which didn’t state what had happened to the aircraft.

Yes, I referred to the timing of the post here but actually the article did say that

A low-pressure turbine blade on VH-VUT, a Boeing 737-800, was replaced last week after the airline was notified of the false documents.

The paras quoted in the OP weren't consecutive and this para was overlooked.

So it was known what happened with one of the aircraft in the article and we now know what happened to other subsequently.
