Am about to register an account with TA's Miles&Smiles. Is there any advantage to being based in US over Australia? I can easily show evidence for either but didn't know if it would ever matter one way or another.

Does it matter with any airline?

Do you want to attain status with TK? If yes, I'd say USA if you think you'll spend much time there (I'm assuming you are in Oz). There are direct TK flights to USA and other Star Alliance airlines there where you can earn towards status. Nearest earners here would be SQ, NZ and TG.
