Motorists are being urged to plan ahead and allow extra travel time when the Tullamarine Freeway closes from 10:00pm on January 5 to 10:00am on January 8.

The freeway, which is commonly used to get to Melbourne Airport, will be shut in both directions between the Calder Freeway and the Western Ring Road to allow roadworks and a bridge rebuild to take place

VicRoads chief executive John Merritt said most motorists could expect delays of 40 minutes, but people coming from the east would experience longer wait times.

I work for VicRoads and can confirm everyone should get out at least an hour earlier than normal.

Luckily, I'm in the west. I suggest everyone from the W or N avoid the Tulla at all costs. This is a big closure (and exciting one for us!)

I've got a 3pm flight on the 8/1.

What are odds the freeway will actually be open by 10am?

There is three hours weather contingency - that's very tight. I'd plan an alternate route just in case.

Of course this is the weekend when I have to fly. :( Thankfully, we can use the Ring Road from where we live in the North, but I imagine that's still going to be chokkers with everyone else having to do the same thing.

Use the Ring Road to get you to the Airport Drive turnoff. Just don't tell anyone else.

Haha. Well aware of the route. Worried that it'll also be chokkers because the Tulla will be closed. Why couldn't it have been the following weekend? (when I couldn't care less about it)
