Hello folk,

I have a reunion to attend next Easter in SIN. I also have a QF WP status to maintain and I am nowhere near doing so, hence need to be creative. I want to keep it because I have some serious travelling to do over the next year or two (and beyond).

Due to competitive J prices out of TPE on CX I am looking down that path. I would prefer to arrive in SIN on the Thursday but could hack arriving the Friday arvo, as it allows me the A380 (to HKG) as opposed to the 747.

To elaborate, the initial plan is:

MEL-SYD - cheapest QF flight I can get
SYD-HKG - hopefully a marginal JASA, potentially upgraded with cash to a FASA, on QF
HGK-TPE - cheapest CX flight I can get
TPE-HKG-SIN - CX J - good price, roughly $1K (and return)
TPE-HKG - cheapest CX
HKG-SYD- book PE on QF, request points upgrade to J
SYD-MEL- cheapest QF

I have ~77K points, some more expected before end of year. This is a mix between 'getting there' and earning a few extra SCs

I know there are much more creative minds out there on AFF than mine, so if there are any ideas, happy to hear them. :)

How about going clockwise, something like:

MEL-SYD/BNE-SIN using your JASA
SIN-CMB, not sure of the best option here, but I expect others will chime in.
CMB-BKK-HKG-MEL (about $1300 in J with CX)

Good for around 400SCs.

Qantas excludes ASAs in U bucket from bonus SC promos

MH HKG-KUL-SIN can be had in J on a Z fare for c. $1700 and 200SC each way.

What dates were you looking at for this?

I can see HKG-KUL-SIN-KUL-HKG in J for around A$930 in april next year.

Both are expensive, should be around $600 ex TPE for TPE-HKG-SIN.
And best to use points to go HKG-TPE, as one ways are expensive.

TPE-HKG-SIN-HKG-TPE return CX i-class is now 930aud (the new normal price :()

OP also HKG-TPE-HKG return CX v-class (lowest SC earning) $2608hkd all in (or redeem 20k points, 600HKD taxes)

Thanks for your responses - some good looking ideas and I'll be sitting down and throwing them into the mix sometime soon and see what eventuates.

I forgot to post it but if my original plan went exactly as I envisage (or hope, at least) it would earn me 520SCs, cost (ballpark, but hopefully a little lower on the cash) $3K, plus 85K points. Pesky one-way PE QF ticket HKG-SYD is around AUD1000 versus AUD600 for one leg of a return. I could buy an upgradable Y ticket I guess for a bit less, but run the risk of a 9 hour overnighter in Y if upgrade is not successful. Won't kill me, but I'd like to avoid it if possible. ;)

Thats seasonal pricing, and often similar at this time of year with the three month window, post CNY she will drop back down.

Not this time sadly - the introduction of regional PE has seen across the board rises in I-Class fares ex-TPE

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/cath...6885-ex-tpe-i-fares-getting-tighter-oct1.html

This is first hand info from CX insider in taipei. So they will be making it harder to use the ex TPE discounted J... some of the changes:

1) ex TPE "C" fares which you can use Diamond gurantee will increase by about 30-40k TWD making them unattractive.
2) ex TPE "I" fares will increase by 10k TWD so they are priced above ex HK Y+ fares (at some time u can buy I fares below Y+ ex HK!)
3) To prevent people like me based in HK
mad.gif
flying to TPE, they will tighten some of the stop-over rules. For example Australia I fare currently allow 1 stopover outbound, but that will become no - stopover in both direction. Note that NA flights already don't allow stopover in HK....
4) the agent didn't mention but was told to "stay very low key" about the last segment of ex-TPE... sounds like they will find a way to police the "ditching of last segment" or prevent it...

the increased I fares can now be seen in November 13 through to April 14

Lets see what happens after CNY, same same for the last ten years ;)

Sorry, you're right - I was half asleep when I wrote that and mucked up the HKD-AUD conversion. It was about HKD$5k.

CX exTPE to SIN, try getting the website to route you via BKK for extra SCs

The question is, how many SCs do we actually need?

Right now, a lot! Almost all of them. I will certainly have some more by the time the trip comes around, but this particular trip is not planned to get them 'all', but i may look at adding a bit more to it if appropriate, and have the time.
