I went to Japan and USA this September and October.
A brief summary of my trip:
MEL-SIN-NRT on SQ (J): I thought the food in the SQ lounge in Melbourne was great, better than I had experienced in the past. Both legs of the trip were good but the lounge in SIN was very crowded.
NRT-LAX on SQ (J): Another great sector, I did find the main options of the catering to be better than the Japanese option. Perhaps I had enough Japanese food. NRT lounge was very good.
LAX-EWR on UA (J): Both the hard and soft product were above expectations. A substantial meal was served on takeoff on this redeye flight. They even asked me if I wanted breakfast prior to arrival but for a 5 hour flight it was a bit too much. The LAX Club lounge though was a little below expectations as far as food goes, the environment was very good
DFW-MEL on QF (J): Qantas is below standard for business class when compared to SQ by a long way (and also behind most Asian carriers, even Chinese ones). I did, however, sleep 10 out of the 17 hours on this flight and arrived home in a much better state than I expected.
More detail later.
I've booked my trip for next year already. MEL-SIN-FRA-JFK (no stopover) on 31 July and SFO-NAN-SYD-MEL (FJ/QF) on 9 September. More pre-Trump-II America!
