I am travelling JQi and a chum is travelling to the same destination, on the same day on QF. Am I able to guest my chum into the FLounge?

We are soending time together at the destination - is that enough to be "travelling together"?

Your views, gentle reader would be much appreciated.

Only J class lounge experience for me but flew to NAN over easter and guested someone in who was travelling on QF32. I just said to the gate keeper he is my guest... She just scanned his boarding pass and all was fine.

As I understand it, No.

The lounge grid states in respect of F Lounge guests:

One guest allowed and must be travelling with the member.

This is further defined in the QP terms and conditions, stating at 10.3:

10.3 Guests in international Qantas Club lounges must be accompanied by the Member and must be travelling with the Member that day.

A common sense reading of this would suggest that the guest must be on the same flight as the eligible member.

However there is enough wiggle room in the definition that (in theory) they could permit a guest entry with the member despite not being on the same flight. The best you can do is ask the lounge dragons nicely and hope for the best.

Regrettably, I think that you are correct. Your interpretation is the one I would adopt.

I do wonder however, about the effect on our friendship as I waive goodbye and disappear in to the FLounge...

Friends are forever; FLounge access only remains until it is enhanced.

Yes you will get access, travelling together has its limits and while you are not on the same flight, the requirement to be on the same flight is not stated either, given both of you are providing revenue to the QF group I would doubt there will be an issue! I have on a number of occasions had that circumstance where our travelling together part ended after we left the F lounge with collegues :)

No harm in trying. I would do¹ what ozmille suggested/anecdoted².

The best that can happen is you'll both enjoy a massage and or a nice a la carte meal together. The worst that can happen is you'd be pleasantly denied.

² Is that a word?

I guested in a colleague who was flying QF to the UK whilst I was flying BA to the UK. They scanned both BPs. I think you would have trouble if they were flying star alliance... or if it was a very full lounge (Friday around 3PM)

It sounds encouraging. I suspect that it all depends on the concierge on the day.

Thanks all, for your input.

And I had a different experience a few years.

I was on QF74 (or is that QF73) SYD-MEL and my guest was also on QF73 but they arrived from SIN and had a green coloured QF boarding pass which was issued in SIN. The front desk agent almost had a heart attack when I said he was my guest and she only quickly looked at the boarding pass as dismissed it as not being QF or same flight.

Front Desk: "Guest must be travelling on the same flight."
Me: "We are on the same flight"
Front Desk: snatches boarding passes and confirms it is same flight, "Who issued this boarding pass?"
Guest: "In SIN."
Front Desk: rips boarding pass and issues another boarding pass with exactly same details.

How is that for service?
