Hi everyone,

This is my first post, I may have already sent a similar post, so apologies if I have.

I enjoy reading all the information available that interests me on this site, I am amazed as to knowledge of members.......thank you for sharing it.

I have paid for an international flight to Europe/Asia return on an a Oneworld airline carrier (not sure if I can say the name).

I paid for it using my Krisflyer (Westpac) platinum credit card. So my question is, am I able to obtain the travel insurance since I used the card to pay for the trip?

I rang Krisflyer, the reply from the consultant has left me very confused. The consultant has said that I should check with the Oneworld airline carrier to confirm that this is allowed.

I am of the thinking that since the travel insurance would be through Krisflyer/Singapore airlines, that they would be in a position to say yes/no?! I did try to have a look on their website with no luck.

Appreciate any assistance.

Your travel insurance through your Westpac CC is underwritten by the insurance company the bank has the agreement with. The only connection with Singapore a Airlines is that they sell the Krisflyer points to Westpac who in turn , give to you.

So travel insurance offered by Westpac is not limited to only Singapore Airlines products.

Thanks! I haven't looked at it from that angle. It makes sense what you say. To seek clarity of the situation, am I best to direct this enquiry to Westpac.......I just don't wish to proceed and purchase T.I. if I can get it for free......well I do pay a fee for it.

As far as I can see, Westpac cards have travel insurance underwritten by QBE now, it was Zurich until June 2015. You'll need to check the policy conditions on the Westpac and QBE sites.

I don't have this CC but the T&C's I've found on the 'net suggest it was underwritten by Zurich in 2009. Here is the product information.

https://www.westpac.com.au/docs/pdf/pb/SIA_plat_insurance.pdf

i suggest you contact Westpac to find out if this is the latest version and check to see what you are covered for. Pay particular attention to any clause which requires all your travel spending to be with that card in order to be covered by its TI.

QBE is westpac's current underwriter. I am currently making a health related claim. Will see how this pans out. This is through the Platinum card. I would not travel without other insurance as their pre-existing illness cover is very restrictive. You claim directly with QBE.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I have double checked, QBE is current. So now that I can say the airline (Cathay Pacific), I jumped on Westpac's PDF in regard to complimentary Travel Insurance. It does not state anywhere that I must fly with Singapore Airlines.......only that I have return ticket before leaving Australia, paid with a qualifying eligible card (Westpac krisflyer platinum amex), plus the usual, residing in Australia, under 80.

However, I think I will confirm with them. I take on board the pre-existing illness, will take a closer look at that.

They don't care who you fly with but must have return ticket and in Platinum case, spent $500 on the card.

Thanks everyone for the help, by the looks of things, as long a s I notify either westpac or QBE I should be fine, I do meet the eligibility requirements, however for peace of mind I will contact QBE.

Very impressed with everyone's knowledge, thanks for guiding me in the right direction!

Also, a welcome to AFF, let's hope its not 3 years till your next post/s

I've wanted to for a while to ask some questions, probably a little sheepish to ask as I am quite a novice to the FF game. However I have taken the first step, so I will start to involve myself to unlock sooooo many secrets that the members know, even advice. I do love reading the articles that catch my eye. I'm having a bit of trouble navigating around the sight, practice will rectify this!
