Was wondering if anyone can or wants to recommend any travel insurance companies for international travel ??

Doa search...thee are lots of threads on this on this forum.

However google Travel Insurance Direct...and google for a prom code for it to most likely get a further 10% off an already cheap price.

However there are pros and cons as you wil read in the threads. ie coverage foe ski-ing, car-hire, longer stays away....so you will have to do some homework on what minimum coverage that you require and then match the best policy against it.

sorry, I did type in Insurance and travel insurance into the search and nothing came up. thanks

Would most definitely recommend Travel Insurance Direct. Had one claim with them and it was a breeze.

As I just mentioned in another thread on travel insurance be wary of complimentary credit card travel insurance.

It is not as comprehensive as some people are led to believe and you may actually find that you are not covered for all flights on your trip or there are certain exclusions.

Personally I purchase a comprehensive travel insurance policy for all the travel I do regularly.

The last time I traveled, I contacted the insurance company who provide free insurance with my gold credit card. They, on request, sent me a full copy of the policy, which I read thoroughly. It was very comprehensive and certainly gave as much cover as any purchased policy. Remember, a lot of people, sending in comments to this forum, have a vested interest in selling insurance, sorry guys.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Sorry, you've written 3 posts on the forum, how would you know who does or doesn't have a vested interest in selling insurance?

From my experience on the site, none of those who replied to the OP's question are in the industry or sell insurance for a living, theyre just giving their feedback based on experience.

Even if someone did sell insurance (I do, im in the industry but I don't comment on such threads), I haven't ever seen anyone plugging their own product.

If you're here merely to stir up trouble with comments like that, perhaps look for another forum in which to do so (or get yourself a job as a travel writer with no-news.com.au :mrgreen:) because the regular posters on here deserve more respect than that.

I'll give another thumbs up for TID.

last year when I was heading to Mexico during the swine flu paranoia-demic TID basically advised they would cover against illness (even tho pandemic's are exluced under it's policy, and I think under about every policy out there) for those who had purchased their insurance before a certain date.

I would suggest you buy your travel insurance as early as you can. Half the benefits of the insurance is covering you for not being able to start your holiday due to illness / accident or family health emergency / death.

Thanks everybody for your comments !! I'm pretty sure i will go with TID, thanks also for the tip of googling for promo codes. Wasn't aware that was even about. Europe here I come !!!!!

TG......... I have no intentions to offend anybody, as you stated, I am new to this column. I am quite offended myself at your unkind words.

Just found this thread - thanks! Purchased TID with 10% discount. Good value so thanks again.

hey everyone,

love this site for tips/hints and info,

im about to head overseas and was enquiring about travel insurnace on my CBA Plat MC/Amex,

now Ive read the terms and conditions

and it does say "free of charge, for yourself, your spouse"

now, based my other thread about spouses/girlfriends

http://www.frequentflyer.com.au/com...-program/transferring-points-to-gf-21578.html

would she be covered in a nut shell,

also, it does say, the following
http://www.frequentflyer.com.au/com...-program/transferring-points-to-gf-21578.html

$950 of each of the person's prepaid fares, taxes etc must be paid

through the combination of commonwealth awards or Commonweatlh awards Travel services

SO does that mean that if I use my qantas Frequent flyer points, im not covered, and so is my Girlfriend???

ive paid $200 each for taxes and 50k points each to bali, PLUS ive booked the first half of the accomodation so far, and if I book the second half now and it comes up as a transaction in a few days later (im leaving in a few hours) will this be considered as prepaid???????

sorry but the terms are confusing
also, what is the definition of prepaid,

Crossed my mind that I should get some travel insurance and bought a Travel Insurance Direct policy last night due to the good reports on here for my trip to NZ this weekend.

Hopefully I don't have to claim anything:!:

Good insurance is not about comprehensive coverage. It is about the ease and timely perfromance of the Claims process.

I use TID and have had a few claims processed by TID. Impressed.

If your girlfriend is not your spouse/de facto then she it not covered by your credit card's complimentary travel insurance. In fact she would not even be covered by a comprehensive travel insurance policy unless you have paid for one in her name.

sorry but the terms are confusing
also, what is the definition of prepaid,
It is meant to be confusing.

In this situation I would say that prepaid would mean anything that was paid in advance prior to the trip/holiday commencing.

I usually get travel insurance from Amex. Not free but it is usually a very low fee. For my last trip to South East Asia I only paid $9 dollars per person, so only $18 for me and my wife.

I got really sick with fever and ended up going to the hospital. You can basically go anywhere and Amex will refund it later. The Amex folks help you all the way. They even called the hotel front desk to tell them I was sick in my room and asked them if they could take me to the nearby hospital. They then called me a couple of times to ask me how I was feeling and if I needed anything else.

I may have been lucky but I was really impressed by their service.

Like who?
As this was posted after my replies..and there were only three posters who had replied I assume that you are implying that we sell travel insurance?

I have absolutely nothing to do with selling travel insurance, or for that matter any form of travel goods or service.

It was very comprehensive and certainly gave as much cover as any purchased policy. .

Unfortunately this poster has omitted to state which CC is involved and so one cannot really discuss the point they have made.

However I for example redeem a lot of award travel and such policies do not always cover this, or if they do you may find that all the points used have to have been ALL earnt via that particular card. If anyone is having an award flight and is contemplating CC Insurance I suggest you read the clauses pertaining to this very carefully.
