Is anyone able to recommend a good travel insurance agency who'll cover if you have a pre-existing medical condition (cancer). All help appreciated!

Many thanks

7.5 years out from stage III Breast Cancer - Columbus Direct covered my (current) trip to the States with a loading. It was easier to get cover 6 years ago than it is now!

Thanks nickykim - will call them for a quote. Glad to hear you're 7.5 years out ... unfortuntely my news isn't so heartening ... gotta lot to do to get through my bucket list!

Can't add any advice but sorry to read that.

Good luck and enjoy ticking the items off your list.

Sorry to hear that things aren't so good - it is useful to know that Italy, the UK and NZ have reciprocal health agreements. I know of other ladies with stage 4 BC who have gone to Europe and planned just to get on a flight to the UK if something flared up.

I had a heart condition last year and found it very difficult to get travel insurance this year. After 14 rejections. I have secured travel insurance with insureandgo. It was pricey but there was no option for going on an overseas trip.

Good luck with your search and your health.

I remember that distressing time. Good to hear you are back to travel. When are you off?

We went to Melbourne as a dry run in June and had a wonderful time.

So we are flying to Hong Kong and China in October, with a stopover each way in Singapore. If that also goes well, we want to try the Queen Elizabeth from Fremantle to Hong Kong in February. The QE has a similar itinerary to the Queen Mary 2 which I missed in March last year. To say I can't wait would be an understatement.

After 25 hospital admissions and 20 procedures last year, I didn't think these trips would ever happen.

Thanks for your kind words.

Have taken out cover earlier this year for a cruise out of Singapore next January. The company is MyCover and they are affiliated with one of the mega insurance companies (can't remember which one offhand). For a reasonable premium increase they are covering an auto-immune disease which, if it flared up, could necessitate helicopter evacuation.

I can't imagine how difficult it would be to get travel insurance if you had depression, or even schizophrenia for example. The insurance companies will either flat-out reject your application or charge you a ridiculous waiver fee (usually the former though).

I recall I had no issues with epilepsy, though the premium was slightly more. Can't recall who though, so can't help sorry.

Thank you to all who responded ... and apologies for taking so long to get back with results! Unfortunately no one will cover my "pre-existing" renal cancer ... have lost count of the number of companies I've contacted (including the two mentioned). Sooo, I'll just take out the standard insurance and hope that I continue to be ok.

Thanks again to y'all.

A great shame. I think this represents a flaw with the insurance system. Here's hoping your insurance provider doesn't scrooge you out of your claim if you need to.
