I booked and paid for a months trip to Egypt and Turkey for this June coming up and want to cancel it. I don't want to 'wait it out' to see if things get better in Egypt as it's not on my list of place to go and was only going for my friends who all cancelled their bookings with their agents. The bad thing is my travel agent is going to charge me $850 to cancel the flight and rebook it to a different place plus the difference in price of the new flight. I'm happy to just lose the $250 deposit for the tour but that's a bit much for the flight.
I'm thinking of buying travel insurance now with travel insurance direct and maybe cancel the whole thing next month. I just want to know from you experienced bunch if you think they will refund my cancellation fees and deposit lost or would this look dodgy cos of the short wait? Are you only covered for the cancellation fee if you buy the insurance on the day of booking?
I usually buy my travel insurance when booking my flights but didn't this time as I didn't have the money on me and as you can tell I never have to claim anything back! So annoyed as I have to apparently cancelled with the same agent and they're a good 2 hours drive from where I live. If I knew this I would have gone to their branch in my area which is 15 minutes away grrrr.
