Hey folks,

I've recently become eligible for *some* of the going travel industry rates available through Breakaway travel and Breakaway Travelclub - cheap flights, discount holidays for the travel industry as an eligible member of a relevant association (The conference organisers one). I note there are some *very* good value rates there but no information about what classes they book into.

So, can anyone (and i know there are a few travel agents and others who would have access to these fares going around) tell me...

1. What classes do they usually book into (particularly the VA, EY and MH fares as they're the ones i'm eligible for and also ones i'd likely fly with)?
2. Do they earn points and SCs?
3. Whether there's any reason why my status would not be honoured if i booked through here?

Also, does anyone know anything about accomodation deals booked through here or other deals i might now be eligible for.

thanks!

I've got no clue, but I'm in a similar scenario now and will be watching this thread with interest.

I can't think of any reason for any airline to not allow you to use status.

Out of interest is your eligibility by virtue of working for a travel company or by virtue of the other gig you are training for?

Surely someone here has some experience with this.

For around 10 years I had access to such rates, but avoided them, not solely due to no point/SC earn.

Posted on a wing and a prayer ...

All travel industry rates from breakaway etc do not give points or status credits. No lounge access either. You will be treated as an industry passenger with no status whatsoever. As a rule, even in Business class tickets, you cannot even pre seat yourself.
I did ask them once what booking class we were looking for for a particular flight and they said they dont have booking classes to check, the just put in an application to the airline who has offered the deal and the carrier will say yes or no.

Status recognition/points earn is almost always associated with normal commercial fares not industry fares.

Even though the ones through Breakaway Travel or World Interline Tours are technically confirmed, if the airline was overbooked your flights would be treated as 'conditionally firm' so you could get bumped. Also as it's an industry ticket you're not eligible for denied boarding compensation & there's probably an endorsement on the ticket somewhere that stipulates 'no DBC'.

Why not checkout www.expedia.ie & check out what their fare levels are as the latest post has a MEL/DFW fare that is AUD1034.00 vs AUD1499.00 on the QF site.

Even if the commercial fare is a few dollars more you have to calculate what price you put on points/SC earn, Lounge access, priority seating etc etc which is something only you can decide.
