My wife and I are flying into JFK on 6 January and will be staying at The Waldorf Astoria. We need to get from the airport to the hotel and I'm wondering if someone can give me a heads up on the best mode of transport ie taxi or limo and if possible some idea of costs.

All help appreciated.

Cheers

Bill

You should be able to book a Lincoln Towncar for circa $80. Taxi will prob cost a small bit less. Forget the trains.

From memory taxis have a flat rate from JFK to the city, about $45 I think.

Why the Waldolf Bill, if you dont mind me asking?

It looked a bit run down early this year, dont think much has changed.

Could also be in a better district if you are going for leisure as opposed to the UN etc.

Actually it is now USD$52.50 plus tip.

NYC Taxi & Limousine Commission - RATE OF FARE

Flat Fare from John F. Kennedy (JFK) Airport:
For trips between (to and from) Manhattan and JFK International Airport, the flat fare is $52.00 plus any tolls using Rate Code 2 on the meter. A NY State Tax Surcharge of $.50 will be added to each trip.

A good driver makes it quite worthwhile to use a taxi.

If travelling light I dont mind catching the subway :) Cheap and if its rush hour, probably way faster than any car :)

I actually did that last time.....I was staying at the IC times square and managed to exit at the right station and the correct 'hole' only to see the hotel in front of me. One of those great satisfying moments........

great system they have there, can get anywhere. Not the most modern by world standards, but certainly works.

I had nothing to do with that decision Spruce, The missus has had a thing about staying there for years so to keep the peace and allow me to go fishing when we get to Tampa, the Waldorf it is :-)

Think I might spend the extra bucks and book a car. Thanks for the advice guys, much appreciated.
